It definitely would! I've seen comics use all kinds of colours as an overall "tint" and you could even alter the colour to suit the scene. Lots of room to experiment :)

Oh god the print proofs are coming tomorrow for me to look at, I'm buggin out. Somehow professional books are so much scarier to me than my indie self-printed slop was.
It's tough with webcomics because the glare of the pure white screen really does hurt your eyes after a while. B/W is beautiful and actually my preference in print, but on a screen? It's a harder sell. Sometimes I wonder if an all-over medium tint with sparing white highlights would help.
