A short walk near home this week - male sparrowhawk, doe/yearling/buck roe deer & Greater Black-Backed Gull
An analysis of BBC news coverage over the last 4 years shows a shameless bias against Vladimir Putin, with BBC reporters insisting on calling the Special Military Operation in Ukraine βan invasionβ
nicely highlights the difference between the Mediterranean Gull & the chocolate brown headed black headed gull!
Not something we see that often in the garden - Wall on a wall.
You say "Too often, the debate is driven by slogans, not facts." You're telling me! Because then tell us that "...heather-dominated moorland, which is considered one of the world's rarest habitats, with the UK hosting an estimated 75% of this global resource." This is simply NOT true. rb.gy/h64odn
And it's a bit like a burglar claiming credit for a new window replacement after a break-in. Schrodinger's hen harriers. Only exist if watched.
@moorlandassoc.bsky.social why do you never engage? Just push your narrative, but won't debate/discuss.
The cupboard was bare..No surprise for one of the most nature depleted countries in the world & the stranglehold on our uplands of a few dominant land uses.
I'm sure that all 600,000 people who were fined by HMRC despite having zero tax due, will be relieved that the seven largest house builders, suspected of running a cartel, are able to avoid having the law applied to them, if they pay into a pot and promise not to do it again.
Justice is blind.
Golden eagles were reintroduced to Ireland, but are now struggling. How come?
Severe ecosystem imbalance due to overgrazing and other factors, causing a lack of prey.
Rewilding *must* take a holistic approach to restoring nature, or it won't work.

more Mull highlights. Gannets from the lounge window, bow riding common dolphin, a tucked away Golden Eagle thru the mist & sunset on Loch Scridain
Our latest trip to Mull over far too quickly. Some great weather, scenery & of course the superlative wildlife
Brexit fishing and Farage. The EU were our partners. We had power. Now we're out on our own.
Pandering to Reform is no way to run a country www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/05... Driving the UK ever more towards being a racist state is not the way for any decent government to run the UK.

Nothing mega but at least I had birds! These are three of the four Yellow-broweds found today (our second wave of the autumn), plus Garden and Willow warblers, Blackcaps, several Robins, a couple of Sparrowhawks and 61 Pink-feet. A reasonable days #WestrayBirding in glorious sunshine.

The image features a text statement with a stylized background. The text reads: "Only in America do regular folks fight against things that would actually help them β like free healthcare, free college, and fair work conditions β just because rich people convinced them it was bad." The words "free healthcare," "free college," and "fair work conditions" are underlined in red. The statement is attributed to a user with the handle @kazecomedy . At the bottom left, there is a logo or text that says "Engines of Solidarity." The background image shows three people in a stylized, halftone dot pattern, with two of their faces covered by red and blue circles, respectively. The overall tone of the image is critical of societal attitudes in America, suggesting manipulation by the wealthy to oppose social benefits.
Thanks, Fox βNews.β
Starting to happen on my patch!Ring ousel, wheatear, green woodpecker & willow warbler.
This says it all.
Spring is here. Kestrels canoodling, song thrush serenading & ravens romancing
Apparently the biodiversity crisis is all a big con. At least according to Charlie Jacoby and the 'guardians of the countryside' on Scribehound π www.scribehound.com/countryside/...
I think this is the closest many of us have ever got to seeing the real Trump. The only consistent thread in his entire unhinged rant was the love & praise for Vladimir Putin. Zelensky has more courage & dignity in his little finger than every member of Trump's regime & fan club combined.
Positive to see Defra reward ongoing environmental action from wildlife-friendly farmers today.
Now, quick work is needed to multiply higher tier stewardship agreements - frozen for too long - dedicating more budget to drive this cutting edge of wildlife-friendly farming.
What an incredible, brave woman.
Oh wow I'm so surprised that it was a total lie.
Not...
Entirely what you'd expect from the NFU but are there other, genuine, conservation issues to consider before more WTE translocations in England & Wales?

Glorious early colour footage of English farming before mechanisation; you get a sense of how many people still worked in the fields during harvest time less than a century ago.
