Plant roots are the best! We study diverse and crazy cell type developmental programs at cellular resolution in plant roots. We have a special focus on those that make the plant more resilient in extreme stresses.

New Brady lab members! Welcome Majken, Alex and Lily!
Were you considering applying to the 2026 GRC on Salt and Water Stress? Do you want to give an oral presentation? We are over 60% full, so apply soon! Consideration for oral presentations from submitted abstracts will occur on March 9, 2026. www.grc.org/salt-and-wat... Please re-post!
Indeed - there is a session focused on interactions with microbes!
Interested in learning about the latest and greatest research in how plants respond to excess salt, too little or too much water? Come to the GRC in Salt and Water Stress in Switzerland. Lots of opportunities for all career levels. www.grc.org/salt-and-wat.... Please repost!
Very happy to see our work out examining guard cell transcriptomes over the course of a slowly developing drought. Thanks to @bradylabs.bsky.social and @kaisakajala.bsky.social for the inspiration, way back in Davis in 2013! The data are available in bar.utoronto.ca/eplant & doi.org/10.1093/plce...
So excited to see this paper out in Cell from the group of my good friend @mydennis.bsky.social It's been so exciting to see this story progress progress. www.cell.com/cell/abstrac...
Excited that our paper with @bradylabs.bsky.social on conservation and divergence in nitrogen regulatory networks is finally published. This was a fun & rewarding collaboration that will continue in new projects to engineer π N responses academic.oup.com/plcell/artic...
At long last, our paper on conservation and divergence of a nitrogen circuit upstream of NLP6/7 &NIR1 in Arabidopsis and tomato is published! It's an exciting combo of whole plant, in vitro, protoplast and systems bio approaches: tinyurl.com/nitrogencirc... @gozdedemirel.bsky.social
This is my all-time favorite meeting. The best plant developmental biology meeting imo.
I'm so very excited to see this out - a single cell and spatial transcriptomic analysis in the rice root reveals mechanisms by which roots can respond to different below-ground growth conditions - including compaction. Congratulations to everyone for persisting in difficult times. rdcu.be/ej8Ui
Congratulations!
We have a postdoc position that just opened up in the Brady lab on reprogramming tomato root system architecture in response to changes in nutrient availability - please consider applying! recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF07095
Check out this exciting GRC on plant single cell bio! Iβll be speaking about our collaborative @hfspo.bsky.social moss project with @tevavernoux.bsky.social Yoan Coudert, Lidor Shara-Moshe, Richard Smith, Javier Jauregui-Lazo, Laure Mancini and more!
Finally!
Im so excited to present to culmination of many years of work from the fantastic Defeng Shen and some great collaborators. For details, I have made a digested thread below, but if you are more interested feel free to reach out (and read the paper of course).

Huge thank you to Chancellor May and our wonderful @ucdavis.bsky.social donors for choosing me as a Chancellorβs Fellow! The UC Davis SVM did a lovely write up if you are interested in learning more about me and this award! www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/news/crystal...
Many government employees who enable our research are not forward-facing, and don't necessarily see our support and commitment to them. Consider reaching out to them personally, and letting them know that you support them.
I've had conversations in the last day with NSF&USDA employees on my research, outreach & permits. I am in awe of their efforts, above&beyond, to enable our research community, to push things through, despite not knowing if they will have a job next week. They are TRUE community providers & heroes.
Contact me if you can't access it.

Does anyone have experience with low-input high-throughput (96 well plate) RNAseq library preparation from plants (bonus points if it is with plant roots...)
I'm happy to announce a postdoctoral position is available in my lab. We have lots of great data to analyze with respect to transposons & epigenetics and cool biological questions to answer.
Please reskeet and share.

Hello bluesky friends! I'm excited to introduce myself. I go by (mee-gun) and am a proud #firstgen college grad that grew up in the midwest. My lab @UCDavis studies genetic drivers of human traits, evolution, and diseases, with an emphasis on neurodevelopment and complex variation. 1/10 (buckle up)
Reminder #jobalert for a starting postdoc or PhD position (for someone with strong ML background)!
Joint project with Gregoire Montavonβs lab at #BIFOLD @xtraexer.bsky.social -

I am so excited to share Dr. C Manzanoβs work: she demonstrates the developmental timeline, function and genetic regulation of the polar lignin cap in the tomato root. It functions as a distinct intercellular barrier from the Casparian strip and is repressed in inner layers. rdcu.be/d10Pd
I am really proud to share our study on microbes, Striga and sorghum is now online in Cell Reports! doi.org/10.1016/j.ce... and the press release is here: biology.ucdavis.edu/news/soil-mi... This was an epic effort led by the incredible Dorota Kawa, +B. Thiombiano, H. Bouwmeester, J. Raiijmakers...
I've got a postdoc position open in my lab. Do you work on moss, single cell transcriptomics or plant developmental genomics? Consider applying for this position - more here:
