It's honestly great seeing your game being made bit by bit especially how unique it looks.
It always gets me that some people believe gaming can't be art but art should be define how people interact with it in various ways be interactive or reflective.
Pacing in Trails has never been great let's be real. Falcom has shown to do pacing well if they want but Trails has always prioritized world-building and characters over moment-to-moment events of escalation. But Horizon does make the payoffs of said slow pacing worth it.
Kondo said they planned out an ending and said characters like Kevin was always supposed to be in Calvard arc. They originally planned Trails having three arcs: Liberl, Erebonia and Calvard. Entries like Sky 3rd, Crossbell Duology and Reverie weren't meant to exist originally.
It recontexualizes a lot about the series while also not breaking its established lore, which is hard to pull off.
Reading a post that begins with a totally salient critique of the Trails series before spiraling into complete and utter madness.
With a series like Trails which spans across multiple games, arcs, stories within arcs and with a huge cast of characters, it is bound to create different highs and lows, interpretations and opinions for each player. I think in the end, our own experience is what truly matters π
I think it's because Trails focused a lot on character perspectives. The events of games four, five and six & seven functioned in parallel to what was happening. Also Mechs were a thing since Sky with Reverie and Aions in Azure. There was also Pater-Mater a sentient robot controlled by Renne.
Trails is such a great series along with Xeno series, but both fanbase are insane regarding what they love or dislike and if you like the least you're ridiculed.
HOW!!?

Estelle Bright and Elie Macdowell from the game series Trails, talking respectively about Joshua Bright and Lloyd Bannings as Elie brushes Estelle's hair.
For the Christmas event in my server last year, I also asked for "Estelle and Elie have a girl talk/sleepover with Joshua and Lloyd as the topic" and Kurii picked it up. This is so perfect xD

The Trails series even at their weakest or most intense tend to still be human in how it treat its characters regarding mundanity.
It never loses sight of what it is as a whole and I feel why it's still my favorite series.

They do more with the element later than what DB2 did. It's clear they originally didn't have the story ironed out as Beyond the Horizon was originally the second game in the arc.
Mahouka is legit boring especially when you realize it's a story with incest and a male character who is stoic that is unbeatable.
That is terrifying
A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
βGot the color pencils finished on this GameCube controller. Still gotta hit the background with some watercolor and pop those highlights with a Posca, but I'm saving that for the final pass.
Oh this kicks ass
Sasha (OC) the mage is smiling and holding up her staff while water magically flows around her.
Here's my mage OC Sasha, a master of the elements! Well, friend of the elements. Well, if she and the elements crossed paths in public, they'd nod to each other in passing.
Kondo still believes that still focusing on economical approach with the series. Though to be fair a lot of the length of these games is due to the amount of content involving NPCs and side stories. The stories themselves aren't that long in length.
Holy shit, fam.
That's a problem with long form storytelling if anything. One Piece, Wheel of Time, Cosmere series and Malazan has this issue.

Post Reverie thoughts on Trails thus far: I started this journey in August 2023 and Iβve become increasingly unhinged about it ever since. I really canβt describe succinctly how creatively nourishing this series has been for me the past two-and-a-half years. I grew up with JRPGS, so Iβve been down this road many times, and I knew what to expect. I knew Iβd love Trails before Iβd touched it, because these things are my bread and butter. Long story filled with weird terminology? Absolutely. Complicated bordering on convoluted plot twists? For sure. Emotional highs filled with buckets of tears because I am a being made of Too Many Emotions? 100% (Yes thatβs a Mob Psycho reference, you are welcome) But an interactive world that does not just remember me, but expects me to remember it too, and through that shared memory coming alive? Now thatβs new for me. And thatβs where I truly believe that Trails shines, even when compared to other games or media that purportedly βdo it better.β It remembers me. It remembers itself. I will always be a sucker for media that espouse the values of compassion and friendship, but the way this series is constantly reinforcing these values by looping back around to its own narrative and characters is incredibly satisfying. It is an investment, it is the ultimate βlong gameβ with a payoff that has been consistently worth it and more. I have legitimately lost sleep over these fictional characters in a way that I havenβt with other series. I have put off playing because the genuine anxiety Iβve felt of βWhatβs going to happen to them? How will this change things moving forward?β Has stopped me in my tracks. I have played so hard Iβve given myself an RSI flare up. Twice. I will eventually catch up and this fire will wane. One day I might look back and wonder where the fervor went. But today is not that day and I am fucking FROTHING bro, I canNOT believe they fucking did thathjkfljdklsajfdl;jlkfdlsjal.
Some (spoiler-free) thoughts on my experience with Trails because I can feel my grey matter sloshing (alt text available).
