Border and Rule (2021) & Undoing Border Imperialism (2013). Sikh. Inquilab. (she/her). Hard on issues, soft on people. Antidote to despair is collective struggle. New here - mostly find me IRL organizing, in internationalist collectives & networks.

Weaving our Worlds has compiled resources and diverse left perspectives from and on Iran. Rather than reduce Iran to various intra-left ideological debates, these provide analysis based in the context, specificity and history.

Congratulations!!!! We are so lucky for this.
Canadaβs defence chief says Canada and allies will possibly help Gulf states "defend themselves against bombing from Iran," and CAF would be presenting recommendation to govt.
Don't forget Canada has just made one of largest ever investments in CAF - $80+ billion.

We knew RCMP's CRU was on campuses across BC (we saw them), but turns out it wasn't just enforcement
"CRU was sharing intel with local police and provincial government, preparing to clear encampments, and advising universities on how they might punish protesters."

It is horrific that Palestinian students from Gaza, admitted to Canadian universities, are not being granted student visas to Canada.
Amidst an ongoing genocide and occupation, denying Palestinian students is continuation of same violence and anti-Palestinian racism.

Too many people think that the current aggressions of US-Israel is a conspiracy to "distract from Epstein files."
Waging sadistic wars is actually proof of - not a distraction from - Epstein files. Imperial violence is inseperable from sexual violence: organized, systemic crimes against humanity.
"point is not that debates do not matter, but that they should be organized around meaningful goals, anchored to specific conjunctures, based in actual terrains of struggle, related to concrete organizing efforts on the ground, and oriented towards building power"

Being older can really be a curse when you remember the past. You KNOW what happened before when a lot of people simply do not have those memories or experiences.
Unless you are in echo chamber, yr movement spaces (like mine) are likely imploding
"Solidarity is not grounded in identical analysis, synchronized outrage, or emotional unanimity. Solidarity is disciplined commitment to remain in relation under conditions that continually threaten relation itself"
Truly dystopic.
"we are witnessing the fullest expression of the most inhumane weapons of the century: Autonomous bombs and missiles. Their βautonomyβ refers to fact that humans need not be in the loop in any meaningful way when deciding where to target or whether to launch such weapons."
"It is highly likely that members of Canadian military, on exchange with the US, were involved in planning and co-ordinating of airstrikes on Iran. It is long-standing policy to have Canadian service members participate in exchanges with US Central Command."

Thinking aboutt migrants - in UAE and GCC countries. So far those killed in the UAE are Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi.
every year, about 10,000 migrant workers die in gcc.
Thinking about refugees in Pakistan w/ border escalation & war with Afghanistan. Already, 20% of global refugees are Afghan.
May the palaces of UAE shatter - shaped from stolen Sudanese gold, relying on exploited and beaten migrant labourers, built on the betrayal of normalization, and marketed for the gluttonous global elite who will quickly abandon Emirati capital as quickly as they evacuated Burj Khalifa today.
To everyone who cheerleaded Carney's faux speech in Davos & posturing as independent middle power -
His atrocious statement today backing US-Israeli attacks on Iran make clear that he & Canada are firmly aligned with dominant imperial interests.
And he did so while shaking hands with Modi in India
What the genocide in Gaza reinforced is that there are no "civilians" when it comes to Israel and the United States. The rest of the world learned the same lesson and the consequences are going to be felt across the world.
Essential, e.g. @harshawalia.bsky.social:
"The entire construction of the disaffected white working class comes from Europe and North America, so doesnβt hold in most other places ... [it's] a construction of the settler colonial and or ethnostate that presupposes ... whiteness."

Ty for the conversation!
Simply no better person to talk to about migration than @harshawalia.bsky.social.
This one is vital.
On a new β½THE END OF SPORTβ½ @harshawalia.bsky.social joins the show to talk about the intricate connections between migration, racial capitalism, and the role of sports mega events in normalizing surveillance and militarization.

"Understanding how the criminal legal system and immigration enforcement have been braided together is essential.
So is understanding the central but often overlooked role of sheriffsβ departments and the political economy of rural areas as bulwarks of the carceral and deportation state"
Appreciate this piece as younger generations are both targeted and also making the path
"Children are not figures of innocence for political rhetoric, or ββbaitβ for federal agents to use in hunting down parents. Young people are not just a part of our struggles, but at the forefront of them."
Me too DZ ty!
Since declaring war in the Caribbean Sea & Pacific Ocean, US has killed at least 145 people in lethal strikes on boats.
These never-ending & interchangeable wars (war on drugs, war on terror, and war on migrants) by US Southern Command no longer even have to specify what org they are targeting!
"Israeli military says more than 1,500 Canadians were serving in IOF ranks last year"
This is enraging. Canada is listed as one of top ten countries of dual nationals in the IOF (after US, France, Germany)
Not only is Canada arming Zionist enemy, Canadians are authorized to commit genocide in Gaza
βCanada is not a benevolent nation-state,β @harshawalia.bsky.social says. It is an imperial power. Canadian mining interests, arms transfers, and foreign policy β including in places like Palestine β have historically and continue to produce displacement and deprivation elsewhere in the world.β π₯π₯π₯
Canadian companies are arming Israel's genocide in Gaza, Trump's illegal wars, and ICE raids. The U.S. Loophole means 60% of Canadian arms exports β those that go to US β are exempted from oversight or permitting.
Canada must cut off this unregulated flow of arms by passing No More Loopholes Act
Nine rescue NGOs have condemned Italyβs new immigration bill, accusing the government of trying to restrict humanitarian sea rescue operations. They say the measures are part of a broader strategy to limit NGO activity in the Mediterranean. www.infomigrants.net/en/post/6987...
Appreciate this!
Not on here much anymore, but just posted this coz ppl also seem to think that a world without borders is utopic and its like " no its actually a very practical project with many ways to make it possible in the now"...

7. Chipping away at national security apparatus thru de-listing campaigns
8. Fundraising for individual legal defense
9. Trade justice to remove migration control provisions as conditions of global trade and aid agreements
10. Anti imperialist internationalist organizing is also border abolition!
