The White-bellied Storm-petrel trip also gave up one of two deployed GLS loggers. 1st ever track. Aust. to Chile (10K km) and down towards the Antarctica coast. Unprecedented?! So hard to access remote colonies with over 80 island-days available (2009-2025) but only 8 landings possible.#Seabirds πŸͺΆ

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and April by looking at the decadal average line positions.

Saturday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the lowest on record (JAXA data)

β€’ about 650,000 kmΒ² below the 2010s mean
β€’ about 1,240,000 kmΒ² below the 2000s mean
β€’ about 1,770,000 kmΒ² below the 1990s mean

Trump administration orders NOAA scientists to halt all international work. Staff were told to stop meetings, discussions, emails with foreign colleagues. Freeze affects travel, virtual meetings, and collaborations until political appointees review them. 🐒🌍πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘

1. I feel like this is such obvious advice that it gets taken for granted & consequently no one says this to young scientists but READ PAPERS, read all the papers. As you move up in your career you will have less & less time to do this. Read everything that appeals to you not just in your field

Excellent new #OpenAccess paper by Holly Stokes and others demonstratng lack of negative impacts of satellite tracking of juvenile hawksbill turtles. Important insights from long term work. More studies appraising impacts needed 🐒🌍πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘ 🌐🦀
