There is certainly some hope that the Gaza deal will hold but itβs important to remember that the last ceasefire agreement collapsed in March before ever reaching phase 2 when Israel reimposed a blockade on Gaza and bombings on the strip resumed.
So what is Qatar going to do about it?
Qatar is designated as a βNon-NATO Major Allyβ of the United States.
Itβs safe to say that if you drop a bomb on the people youβre supposed to be negotiating with, youβre probably not too interested in striking a deal.

Another puzzling move in this trade war drama: Syria, which has almost zero trade with the U.S., was hit with 41% in tariffs by the Trump administration. Russia, however, is not on the list of targeted countries.
βSyrians wonβt let just anyone take their freedom away,β says Syrian Emergency Task Forceβs Omar Alshogre. βBecause they fought for a long time and they are ready to keep fighting for it."

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! May the year ahead bring peace and relief to those suffering from war, displacement or grief.
Today, I am counting my blessings.
Good morning from Beirut!
On assignment in Damascus in 2011 with @iamarwadamon and @jomanacnn. We often huddled together on the bed and whispered about the next dayβs shoots. In Syria, it was always safer to assume that hotel rooms were bugged and we didnβt want to risk divulging our plans or the names of our contacts.
Syria: Assad's police threatened to bury me and my reporting. Now I'm back, and free
When I wrote about visiting Syria in my memoir, I was pretty convinced Iβd never see the day the country would rid itself of the Assad dictatorship. It still feels utterly surreal to witness the events of the last few weeks.
So many Syrians I know are telling me they canβt wait to go back. There will be a mass movement of Syrian exiles returning if they feel that itβs safe.
The fact that Assadβs fall came so many years after that of dictators in other Arab Spring countries hopefully means that the rebel forces will know not to make the same mistakes and that important lessons were learned in the last decade.
Iβm still digesting the recent events in Syria and, like everyone, I have no idea what happens next. But when I see video of political prisoners freed after decades, it feels like a real unraveling of something so deeply rooted in the country that few imagined theyβd witness it in their lifetime.
The wealth held by the world's billionaires jumped by about 17% over the past year, as significant gains among the super rich in the United States more than offset a decline in China, Swiss bank UBS said reut.rs/4imZSab
This video of children lining up for rice at a food distribution center in Gaza is some of the most devastating footage Iβve watched lately. It came a day after 3 women were crushed to death waiting to buy bread in Deir Al Balah. Our full report on hunger in Gaza comes out tomorrow on @hallieonnbc.
Iβm in Jerusalem, watching dvlpts in Aleppo and thinking of how in one year, a domino effect of events has led to a stunning victory for Syrian rebels against the Assad regime. A weakened Hezbollah, Iran on the back foot and Russia focused on Ukraine created the perfect set of circumstances to act.

Intel source in Israel who was briefed on the deal tells me Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreement:
- Includes a 60-day period for gradual withdrawal of IDF from southern Lebanon.
- Calls on Hezbollah to withdraw North of the Litani River
- Requires the Lebanese army will deploy to south Lebanon.
Some really atrocious weather in Jerusalem tonight. Displaced Palestinians in Gaza have told us that their tents are blowing away and that the few belongings they have are getting soaked.

Thank you, Noor! Hope you enjoy it.
