If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected β€” young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! β€” and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

A related concept is "Director of Safety", a mid-level executive who is to be sacrificially canned when the upper management that's been ignoring them is endangered by the inevitable consequences of that ignoring.

I don't know Rust. Should be easy to package the local execution stuff in a Linux distro independent way. If I have time, I'll check it out.

Unredact

Have you tried unredact.live ? Afaict from the github repository notes the code runs in the browser. Haven't tried it out yet, though.

The local build results in a static website and a Rust webserver to serve the pages. The Rust bits will be the only compiled component.

For internal coherence reasons your Evil Scheme *cannot be* to bring down the entire global economy and cause world war three because someone is paying you to do so. Like... the money is only worth something because that hasn't happened.

I try to teach my kids this all the time. In order to become good at something, you have to be willing to be bad at it first. I worry that our kids will forget the messy process of learning things. AI promises "woah, I know kung fu," but minds and bodies don't work that way.

Political parties in a liberal democracy have a responsibility to police their membership and ensure that they uphold the norms and principles necessary for that system of government to function. If they can't, they should be banned.

This is not trueβ€”driver’s licenses aren’t acceptable under the SAVE Act without additional proof of citizenship. The fact that they keep doing this sleight of hand should make clear that the SAVE Act is not something that β€œevery American gets”

exactly - I think another reason why AI enthusiasts piss a lot of people off is because they often excitedly speak about these technologies as if they exist in a context-free vacuum,

while for non-enthusiasts, the often-terrifying *context* in which AI exists is of way more importance and interest.

Yes. That noble wishcast has been tested and found void. Time to set it aside until such time that our culture produces people that can actually deliver it.

BREAKING: Our member was FIRED when he reported sexual harassment and physical violence at this Taco Bell in Carmichael.

Today workers walked off the job on strike in solidarity with him.

Before firing our coworker, management failed to pay him hours of wages. 🧡

We basically need to figure out how to destroy people like Joe Rogan and how to militantly regulate platforms like Meta and X. Deplatforming actually worked but now it’s too late as a policy of individual businesses, we will need to use the state against un-woke thought crimes by rw influencers.

True redemption doesn’t usually involve an increase in power and influence for those redeemed, and we should be wary of those who try to gain those privileges from a pose of repentance.

This. Stop harm, prevent recurrence, then attempt persuasion, redemption, while maintaining vigilance and stopping posture. Stop, prevent are *forceful* - hands layed on - whatever is necessary.

This is, unfortunately, the logical & inevitable endpoint of where Democrats have been for two decades now. Obama, HRC, & Biden already had decided that we can never reverse any GOP tax cuts & <raise> taxes on anyone under $400K in income. πŸ‘‡ is sadly just the next step in defunding our polity.

I'm just thinking of what a CEO would do if it malfunctioned. Who's going to be there to fix it? I'd rather be stardust than fight for the last can of tuna with a bunch of rich, d-bag preppers.
