I truly can’t handle reading this news about OpenAI’s disregard for public safety on the same day as I saw Sam Altman equate the energy use of AI models with the energy use of humans, reducing humanity to a resource calculation to be managed so he can pursue his AGI god.
I’m just so disgusted.
aeva @aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place i'll say one nice thing about ai slop: the ai generated preview images continue to be a reliable indicator that there are other major issues with the article or video they represent. if the author couldn't be bothered to try to land a solid first impression, why, you can bet they didn't care enough to try and make anything else worth your time straw man: "but i can't draw and i hate artists" look pal, you could take a sharpie and a piece of paper and draw crude stick figures with comic speech bubbles saying something witty and relevant to your blog post/video and I would be 10000x more impressed than the mockery of the human spirit you decided fit to represent your mingnum opus instead

How could a simple self-replicating system emerge at the origins of life? RNA polymerase ribozymes can replicate RNA, but existing ones are so large that their self-replication seems impossible. Could they be smaller?

it's so grim. so many experienced people told them this years ago. programmers said vibe coding would create security and documentation risks. writers said editing would eat as much time as generation saved, and quality would suffer. stop? why stop when you can accelerate into the wall harder.
