Iranian Ambassador to Georgia Ali Moujani stated that a Georgian government representative had written a note in the condolence book for Ayatollah Khomeini. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the note was written by a deputy to Maka Bochorishvili, but did not specify which one.
After the European Commission finalized visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports, Kaia Kalas stated:
"The people of Georgia have our full support but there is no place for those representing repression in our Union".
5/ The measure applies only to diplomatic passports. Holders of such passports will still be able to enter EU countries using a regular Georgian passport, as ordinary Georgian citizens do.
4/ According to the European Commission, the mechanism was activated for Georgian officials because they have deliberately and continuously violated the obligations undertaken within the visa-free travel regime and have breached democratic standards and fundamental rights in key areas.
3/ The European Commission notes that this is the first time the new, strengthened visa-free suspension mechanism has been used.
