You can reduce your exposure to chemicals in plastic by doing 3 easy things:

β€‹βœ… Avoid plastic packaging when possible
βœ… Transfer food into glass or ceramic for heating
βœ… Sign the petition calling on world leaders to cut plastic production: www.greenpeace.org/PlasticsTreaty

If we don’t stop heating up plastic, we’re COOKED πŸ”₯ 🍱 🫠
According to @greenpeace.org’s new report, each time you heat up a plastic takeaway or a frozen dinner, you could be consuming nanoplastics along with #toxic #chemicals.

"A growing body of scientific evidence shows that the toxic poisons discharged from ships using Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS, known as scrubbers) damage the marine environment and increase human health risks. Scrubber wastewater is highly toxic, significantly hotter and much more acidic than the surrounding waters. It contains various pollutants, including heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrates and nitrites, sulfates and particulate matter. Even at extremely low concentrations β€” just 0.001% β€” scrubber pollutants can harm marine life and disrupt biological processes that harm ecosystems, ocean resources and coastal communities.

Given the significant risks and harms from scrubber discharge, regulations like the proposed revision to Rule 8 of the Portland Terminal Tariff to prohibit scrubber wash discharge while ships are at dock, are appropriate and justified."

The @ceh found 28 shampoos and other products sold on Amazon with Cocamide DEA in it β€” which has been found to cause liver and kidney cancers.

Today is #RefuseSingleUseDay.

But let’s be clear: the responsibility to "refuse" shouldn't rest on individuals at the checkout counterβ€”it must start in corporate boardrooms and in policy forums. We cannot recycle our way out of a crisis created by overproduction.
