I know if I could figure out why the hell this single measure sounds so fucking weird & fix it without getting rid of some of the mathy stops I could easily build out the rest of the song, but I haven't "solved" it yet!!

The problem is I can't really make a big change to the structure of the melody without it losing the shape I'm actually going for here (I tried squishing it into something more digestible like 3/4 or 4/4 but it kinda just becomes a different thing at that point)

I've been fidgeting with the drums a bunch to figure out where it's landing at but after I sit and listen to it for a while it'll sound good at first but then I'll notice something is either rushing/dragging in the main melody atm and it feels locked down in a way that I'm unsure how I fudged it

yea when I bump into this kind of thing I usually just fiddle around with it until it sounds right, though a lot of my tracks are in simple 4/4 or 3/4 patterns and in this case I've ended up with something that feels like it's like 5/8 or 7/8 or Something.
