"How to take action for science" written in a retro bubbly font above a bunch of canva clipart test tubes and beakers filled with colorful bubbling liquids
Hi! Do you want to rip your face off over the constant attacks on science in the US? Here are some actions you can take! They require varying amounts of time, repetitiveness, and sticking your neck out, so hopefully you can find something in here thatβs right for you:

Afro-Caribbean researcher R. Shawn Abrahams in the Moroccan desert, measuring the photosynthetic capacity of the plant Moricandia suffruticose, a relative of Brassica crop plants like Broccoli.
Hi new folks! I'm Shawn. My research utilizes a combination of systems biology, systematics, and comparative genomics to understand trait evolution in plants. My current work took me to the northern Sahara in search of desert-adapted wild relatives of Brassica crops (π₯¦π§ͺ). Here's how it went:

Before joining the Yuan Lab, I spent a lot of time during my Hons & MSc years in the epic Drakensberg- South Africa. I studied a stunning daisy in the genus Senecio, & these gorgeous pink flowered Rhodohypoxis. Oct-Dec was our usual field season & this year I am certainly missing the mountains.

A small plant grows directly out of red rocks in Sedona, AZ. The plant has a large red flower and green leaves with a purplish mediolateral stripe across each leaf.
Hello BlueSky ππΌ I'm new to this community so here's a quick intro--I'm an Asst. Research Prof in the Yuan lab at UConn. I use the anthocyanin leaf stripe phenotype of Mimulus verbenaceus (pictured) to study the genetics, development, and evolution of novel phenotypes. Also love running & dogs.

A quick note to all the NewSkys: there really isnβt algorithm here. We depend on each other to spread the word. So if you want others to see something, repost it. Liking something adds it to your feed but doesnβt surface it for others.
