City University of Hong Lai Ming Wai building. A large long building with a central tower with the logo of City University of Hong Kong on the side.
Off to GachaCon today, talking about disability taxes and free to play games (with a sprinkling of stuckness provided by my co-author @francescafoffano.bsky.social )
Looking forward to a day of talks on Genshin Impact and gacha games

Snow Angel has entered early access.
Wings will be added in patch 0.2
Interesting problem while updating Monsters of the Greenwood to Godot 4.5 (new accessibility and tilemap systems)
Screen reader voices often interpret Bow as in to an audience, not as in the thing which shoots an arrow.
(Otherwise the update has been smooth)

Made for the City of Dreams and Fears game jam, here's City Reflections: a puzzle game about exploring a city
cfdj.itch.io/city-reflect...
Alt text: a pixel art city skyline at night, with the moon low in the sky. The skyline is reflected in a pool of water. With the text "City Reflections"
Consider joining the 5th annual game jam dedicated to blind accessibility starting this feb!

First time EU regulation has got a bigger cheer than video game crimes.
Dutch Digra success
Screen capture of the Godot game engine UI. The Scene tab is selected, and below that two options labeled "remote" and "local" with remote being highlighted in blue
A Godot person but not a Mac person, does Mac not have this option at the top of the scene tree to view noded etc labeled as remote?
(This is how game inspecting works on windows if I've understood what you're looking for)
Pixel art of a sand river bank. The river flows gently down stream. Under the river rocks and the faint outline of a sword can be seen. Above are the buttons B and Down
Day 6: fossil
A bit of a stretch with this one.
Pixel art of the inside of a church bell tower, rendered in shades of grey. A sword suspended from a rope and pulley system strikes a bell to the left of the image. Above are the buttons B and Left.
Day 5: Bell
Definitely getting back into the swing of things now.

Pixel art of a giant sword, it's tip buried in a forest so that it towers above the trees. Seagulls fly around it's hilt. Above are the buttons A and Up.
Day 4: Scaled
Back to the A + Up pallet, but this time using all 3 parts of it.
Pixel art of an automated anvil hammering on a sword. The anvil drives its own hammer with a cog system from above to hammer the sword. A spare hammer is hung on the wall. An open furnace roars to the left, illuminating the room. Above is drawn a right arrow button.
Day 3: Automaton
I really hated the green in this palette so avoided using it. The way the Gameboy colors let it assign 1 of 3 4 colour pallets to 3 different object types (background, player, etc). So expect that from tomorrow!
Pixel art of a stone wall with moss growing from it. In the center the moss has grown in a shape almost like the outline of a sword. Above the wall hovers a button with a left arrow on it.
Day 2: Moss
Pretty happy with this one (and hopefully less crushed by compression)
#swordtember #pixelart
These could be activated when playing an original Gameboy game using two button combos, faking the game having colour.
Some games, like PokΓ©mon Red, Green, and Yellow, had appropriate default pallettes.
(Need to figure out how to have bluesky not destroy pixel art)
Pixel art of a wide bladed blue sword with a curving Nautilus shell handle. Below the sword is the button combo of A + UP
It's swordtember again!
Day 1: Shell
I'm going for a bit of a gimmick this year and using one of the 4 colour Gameboy Color re-colour pallettes each day.
(I definitely didn't yesterday forget, Following @faithschaffer.bsky.social's prompt list)

Counter hypothesis: Stock marketing
Magic and PokΓ©mon TCG have increased in price due to their speculative secondary markets. (With the supporting example being Yu-Gi-Oh, with its lack of a speculative secondary market)
Pixel art of two trains in an engine shed. The left train is green with a yellow grill and a short boxy bonnet. The right train is orange and yellow with a slopped nose and two small windows for the drive.
[Train tasks update 1: Two new trains]
That's it, that's the update
Train tasks
A little desktop toy inspired by co-working streams and games like Rusty's retirement.

I've been playing a lot of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, and my gosh this game feels luxurious.
Like a custom sprite for each possible class holding a lantern at night, just in case the player character is dead.
Larger sprites just for the start of battles.
Extravagance, there's no other way to put it
If you'd like to see cool games which are being made in the North of England then follow this!
(Also follow GaMaYo generally as they organise good stuff)
(3/3)
So the winner in compost is the player who plays the most cards in a single turn, hopefully this creates space for big combos which end with players admiring each others creations.
(If this is actually how players experience it, find out soon!)
Next time: some icon design
(2/3)
This comes from my favourite moments in Dominion are the big combo turns, market into market into market etc*. However these turns slow the pace of the gMd, and worse have other players waiting for you.
*Experienced Dominion players are probably cringing at this strategy, I'm bad at Dominion
Pixel art of a card featuring a pink round allium flower. In the top left is a bulb symbol, a green +1, a brown +2.
[Compost: Flowering deck builder]
The core of compost is simultaneous flower blooming turns, players playing all their cards into a veritable bouquet of flowers.
Why simultaneous though?
(1/3)
A pixel art game card featuring a daffodil. On the left of the card is 3 symbols: a flower next to a 5, a green + next to a 3, a brown + next to a 1
Yesterday I accidentally started designing a deck builder about plants, so expect pixel art flowers and playtesting notes
You know itβs a cool research method when the BBC asks to replicate it.
I used social media ad repositories to find that 93% of ads failed to disclose loot box presence: doi.org/10.1016/j.cl....
@twgerken.bsky.social of BBC News found 90.9% of games failed to comply: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article....
