Exiting moment for us at @acsg.bsky.social as we move from "Australian" to "Australasian", with a focus on shaping responsible space governance that contributes to prosperity in the Indo- and Asia-Pacific. Stay tuned more to come in a few weeks!
I curated a collection of gorgeous images, our planet from above, for this week's Space Citizens Substack. It tells the story of how important EO data is for so many things on Earth, including understanding the relationship between space and our lives on Earth. open.substack.com/pub/spacecit...
I'd be very happy never to see "manifest destiny" used again

To replace the self-fulfilling prophecy that space is “congested, contested and competitive”, we need a new mantra, one that offers solutions: “Communication, cooperation and collaboration”. Check out my Substack this week and say the mantra with me. open.substack.com/pub/spacecit...
This week I'm asking you what you want to know about Mr Musk himself, and I'll answer. I don't write about him very often, but with a new Exec Order this week making it even easier for launches and re- entries to be licensed, his name is in the headlines once again. Spacecitizens.substack.com
Ha. ANU VC says she's happy with how she's done her job, & that there will be no more forced redundancies- that is, OTHER THAN THE ONES ALREADY ON THE TABLE. So, yes, there will be more forced redundancies. #fundHigherEdFairly www.canberratimes.com.au/story/904605...
It’s such dark times at ANU
Staff rebellion. We are not inefficiencies.
ANU announced a newly created position of Chief Risk Officer - worth $500k+/yr - in same email it talked up the $50M+ worth of staff cuts via redundancies, another $50M to come. Also same email staff lectured on being respectful talking about job losses, cuts. 🤯 Schadenfreude
Next installment of my "Space Citizens" Substack newsletter: "Artemis and the Moon Part 1". Not (yet) about NASA's skinny budget, I'm starting instead with the mythology of Artemis the goddess of the Moon, and possible cautionary tales. Audio also because it's long! open.substack.com/pub/cassandr...

I've started a Substack called "Space Citizens", as I write a book. Space matters, in ways you may not think of, and more than you may realise. My mission is to raise Space literacy across government and militaries, policy and decision-makers, and the public. open.substack.com/pub/cassandr...
There are 21 year olds who are alive today who don't have any significant memories of life and politics pre-Trump. There are also 30 year olds alive today who have no memory of life and politics pre war on terror. We literally have generations of youth who have normalized madness.
Correction - The ECCC’s TikTok has 320,000+ followers, with visitors vlogging their experiences and making their own content such as through remixing footage with rap music.
International courts aren’t just about trials; they shape collective memory. The ECCC deviates from the idea that justice ends with a ruling - should courts embrace this long-term public role, or should their work stop at the verdict? Read more: www.toaep.org/pbs-pdf/166-... (4/4)
Unlike courts that deliver a judgment (last ECCC judgement was in 2022) and move on, the ECCC has an ongoing presence in Cambodian society. Engaging communities born after the Khmer Rouge, it raises a bigger question: Should international courts build lasting connections post-trial? (3/4)
With 180,000+ TikTok followers, the ECCC has taken a bold step in engaging Gen Z - something I doubt the ICC or any Australian court (my country) wouldn’t do. Rather than staying in academia, it continues shaping memory at large through social media & public engagement writ large. (2/4)
What happens when the courtroom doors close? My latest paper looks at the residual functions of the ECCC and how tribunals are shifting from a "get in and get out" model to long-term public engagement. From TikTok to community outreach, courts are shaping their legacy far beyond verdicts. 🧵(1/4)

Our chair, @cassandrasteer.bsky.social, explores the evolving 21st-century spacescape and why space governance must move beyond its state-centric roots. As space citizens, we all have a stake in a multi-stakeholder, multi-domain, inclusive & intergenerational approach to security & sustainability.
The #USAID website has just gone dark, amidst reporting #Trump may try to dissolve it completely.
But #Congress established USAID in statute, and Trump can't unilaterally override a statute by executive order.

@vsamsondc.bsky.social and @almuazcarate.bsky.social, who previously featured on an ACSG podcast, have published an expert paper on counter-space capabilities. The paper examines multilateral efforts and regulatory mechanisms for managing both civilian and military uses in space governance.
Excited to say I was invited on one of my fave
#podcasts, #Law on #Film! I chatted w/ @jonathanhafetz.bsky.social about 2 #Cambodia #Genocide films, First They Killed My Father & Le Temps des Aveux. I hope people find it as interesting as I find other episodes! www.buzzsprout.com/2073468/epis...
I discuss 20+ films that can help to teach about the relationship between law and race. Many of these films also invite a discussion into how filmmakers (mis)use the medium in their reflection on law and race. Other suggestions are welcome.

Quick reminder for academics teaching students who aren't from wealth: students are really struggling both emotionally and financially (these are frequently linked) and they can't reduce their paid work to study. They look like poor students but mostly they are overwhelmed. Show some compassion
