Glaciologist Dr Heidi Sevestre & explorer Matthieu Tordeur recently completed the “Under Antarctica” expedition, the first-ever French crossing of the Antarctic interior by kite-ski & the first kite-ski expedition dedicated entirely to polar science.
Congratulations!

25 years ago, Liv Arnesen & Ann Bancroft became the first women to cross the Antarctic continent.
Their journey shattered assumptions about who belongs in extreme exploration & continues to inspire women in polar careers worldwide.
A reminder that barriers exist to be crossed, on the ice & beyond!
The Australian Antarctic Division celebrates 50 years of women's participation in their Antarctic programme.
This milestone honours the women who broke barriers on the ice — and inspires the next generation to lead, explore, and thrive in polar careers.

Margot leans against the reeling of a ship. This picture was taken in 2023 on RV Roger Revelle, during US GEOTRACES research cruise GP17-OCE, to the South Pacific and the Southern Ocean. Margot left from Papeete, French Polynesia and arrived into Punta Arenas, Chile, after 2.5 months of studying trace elements and their isotopes across the frontal regions of the Pacific Southern Ocean sector.
This is Dr Margot Debyser, one of our #100PolarWomen.
She studies changing chemistry in polar oceans: how do nutrients & trace metals reach marine life & may change? As the base of the food web, shifts in supply can ripple through entire ecosystems.
