www.nts.live/shows/guests... Really feel like what Chuquimamani-Condori is doing sounds like nothing else. Rural futurism, over-the-top earnestness, power ballads. I love it.

Really good talk today by the Elba Research Collective (eblaresearch.org) on building committees as a response to urban crisis in Beirut. Helpful to think about buildings as spaces of organising in contexts of urban crisis in my own work - repair practices against urban collapse, social and material

But I'm coming around to the argument that you can't really separate out the social media dynamics from a lot of this stuff, even if that pains me as a historical materialist. The manosphere stuff in particular is so divorced from any kind of tangible reality - it's pure internet brain.

I don't live in the US anymore so don't have an answer to the 'is the economy bad or are the vibes bad?' arguments, but the sense that previous generations had it easy and were given houses as soon as they turned 18 is so pervasive and seems particularly toxic, whether left or right wing coded.

Been spending a lot of time reading Elon twitter these days and the way that concerns about downward mobility in the US have mapped on to weird manosphere arguments and anti-immigrant politics is really wild. Young men making 100k a year and choking on resentment about women and immigrants. Ugly.
