@tomforsyth.bsky.social That reminds me of a visit Mrs F and I made to an art museum in Brussels where, at random (?) occasional moments a large sculpture (?) would get hit by a mechanised hammer and make a very loud clang.
I assume the “art” was seeing the reaction of visitors.

A section of texture from a 1995 game showing versions with/without precomputed motion blur on a car wheel/tyre.
FWIW I found a small section of wheel+tyre textures from the port with and without motion blur
Pretty certain that was the also the case in the Rave Racer port Namco did for our prototype HW back circa 95~96.
Also, just amazing how good it looked given how low resolution the textures were. Probably could fit the entire world’s assets into one 2k*2k.
