In scandinavia, we start to approach similar distances in south-north trips. Often by train, usually by car.

And not surprisingly, people rant about gas prices here too.

A few strategically placed east-west high speed rails in US would do wonders. Especially bc you have large cities in both ends

Has this been suggested?

I guess it would take some cleaning if it has to be dug out from under rubble or smth.

I never understood why the decades of drama about uranium enrichment levels. They can just make Pu239 in a reactor and skip the tedious isotope separation; like everyone else.

'Elite education' as this specific kind of status machine is pretty exclusively an American and British phenomenon btw.

Sure, there are more and less prestigious universities in any country, but nowhere else is it this kind of... purposeful silver spoon club.

What I see happening in this:
A smaller interceptor approaches the Shahed from behind, strikes the propeller, and detonates without visible damage to the shahed.

Then, a larger and faster interceptor (if not a missile) comes in from the right, impacts, and detonates some kind of shaped charge.

Has is ever occured to European leaders to procure European arms, precisely for this reason.

It genuinely looks like they have fallen in love with the dog leash USA has them in.

Not at all double standard. A perfectly consistent standard.

Russia has nukes. Iran has not.

Simple as that.

Btw, as NPT signatory, Finland's official position is: "Russia has a special right to posses nuclear weapons. We do not. We trust Russia as to work towards the abolishment of nukes."

Yes they appear to care about climate change in some sense.

China is not food self sufficient, and their southern neighbors are populous countries in quite risky areas.

Also, environmental damage is a growing issue there. Population was less concerned when they were poor. Now they care more.

I must stress this:

They hate Europeans for their tariff retaliation, not exactly because the retaliation is bad.

But because they think of Europeans as non-character pawns, who break their rules of the game by having ANY independent agency.

They think of everyone else like an NPC in a game.

If they hit you, you drop a gold coin.

They can hit you 101 times, and get 101 gold coins. And you will play the same *ouch* animation 101 times.

They get angry if you start plotting against them, because having thoughts isn't your role.

Jaa-a. Oikeassa olet. Voi olla että tavan kansalainen ei sen kummemmin uutisia seuraa.

Ja varakkaampi väestönosa on tosiaan oikeistolaisempaa.

Yes!
The shameless Eurofederalist in me rejoices every time Trump slaps our leaders across their faces.
Trump is the best thing that has happened to this continent's independence for a long time.

If the regime has even some kind of real grass root support, it will be impossible to overthrow with bombings.

If half of these protesters are genuine, this regime change will fail.

I use 'us' referring to EU/Europe. I personally have exactly as much/little skin in this game as you probably. (Unless you are deployed there right now).

It's useless for me to whine about Israel's imperialist motives as immoral. Instead, we should focus on being independent actors.

From a defense industry engineer perspective (ie. NOT soldier perspective) I often get the impression that Finnish military leaders and defense politicians have a particularly stubborn fondness of all things American. Bordering on cringe.

Hence my guess is they'd sneer at this.

A *large* part? I'd need to see numbers to believe that.

If the same activity was replaced by EU equivalents, there should be little difference.

But there is way to go. So it needs to start from somewhere. It would be done faster than anyone thinks.

02.03.2026 10:17 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Entirely possible.

If the regime overthrow fails, that's maybe the second best outcome for us.

Considering Trump admitted their initial plan was just to take the next Ayatollah in line, which would make the regime some kind of "Same Islamist freaks, but this time pro-Palantir"

Of course, countries like Estonia need to think about these things very pragmatically.

They will not support banishing US bases _today_ bc European deterrance is not a competitive replacement _today_.

02.03.2026 10:06 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I agree they can use them way more freely than they should. And we probably should allow 0 US controlled bases on the continent.

Though in practice, they need our permission. US bases use local power grids, water systems, roads, services... We can tell them to leave.

02.03.2026 10:04 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I actually think it's good (for us) that they have no plan for what comes next.

That increases the chances the next regime is chosen by what gains support from the locals, as opposed to some US-chosen pro-Palantir plant.

Considering how secular the average Iranian is, our chances are not bad.

02.03.2026 09:59 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

That US _can_ use our bases is not necessarily bad.

It is very bad if they can coerce us to allow it against our will and interest. Sovereignty before all.

Curiously, these anti-US-as-an-aesthetic tankies never support tools for said sovereignty, such as serious European nuclear deterrance.

02.03.2026 09:54 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Considering they assisted Russia's aggression in Ukraine by handing them what is now the primary terror weapon there (Shahed/Geran), our interest probably is to get rid of the regime, or at least F them really hard.

That Israel also happens to hate them is a happy accident.

02.03.2026 09:49 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

Everybody here starts from some kind of perverse need to whine about EU every morning, issues secondary.

What exactly are our interests wrt Iran? What course of action would be optimal?

02.03.2026 09:44 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

As far as I'm aware, EU is not being used to carry out this war.
Akrotiri base UK territory, and UK is not in EU (anymore & yet).

All things considered, I don't think EU has contributed to this mess in any significant way.

It really works out and you feel at home? That's great!

I was sceptical Americans would actually enjoy moving here bc of language barrier realities and stuff.
