Today, Dr. Elliot Carter, @olivine-enthusiast.bsky.social, Lecturer at @keeleuniversity.bsky.social, gave the first Research Seminar of 2026 and of the Epiphany Term, entitled "Sixty Million years of Seafloor alteration: the South Atlantic Transect, a unique natural experiment" β›΄οΈπŸŒ

BBC report at a headline level that Grok will now not make sexually exploitative images any more. An actual reporter comes on and explains that it will do no such thing, and will just make the images invisible in the UK. These are two very, very different things.

Every dollar JK Rowling makes from Harry Potter is going into bankrolling an extortion racket issuing legal threats to organizations across the UK to purge themselves of trans people or face ruinous lawfare.

How we discovered a giant geological sponge for carbon in rocks deep below the seafloor While drilling deep into the seafloor we recovered a thick sequence of carbonate-cemented rubble (breccia). The carbon content and estimated volume of the breccia suggests that slow-spread oceanic cru...

Very excited to see this out in the world. During IODP Expedition 390 we drilled into a thick sequence of carbonate-cemented breccia in the South Atlantic. We show these have nearly twice as much carbon as any previously sampled oceanic crust! doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

We’re advertising a PhD studentship for folks with good knowledge of Caribbean culture and society, with background in geography, human geography, humanities or interdisciplinary geosciences as part of our @leverhulme.ac.uk funded β€˜volcanic histories’ project

Everyone is rushing to defend Graham Linehan as some martyr to free speech but don't actually state what he tweeted. He explicitly called for people to violently assault trans women in the bathroom.

In another instance, he cyberstalked a trans minor. He's legitimately a danger to trans people.
