Norway’s rare earth deposit among the world’s biggest, new research shows
The discovery could transform Europe’s supply chains and reduce its dependence on China.
Another government/industry promotion of a big rare earth deposit ... so many deposits (given that rare earths aren't that rare), but no real indication of what the reserves will be (how economic it will be to mine) & the costs/impacts of mining & processing ...

Ivor Cutler and Linda Hirst - Women Of The World
YouTube video by Corentin Vallet
I've had this song stuck in my head for a while now ... partly because of impending International Women's Day, but I think more because of where we are now! ☹️

If I was @zackpolanski.bsky.social, I would be pointing out to the BBC that whatever model they use to justify giving Farage & his boot-lickers season tickets for every BBC show under the sun must surely now treat Green Party politicians in exactly the same way. Might even be one for the lawyers...

Greens overtake Labour in sensational poll
The Greens have polled higher than Labour in the latest poll by YouGov, which puts them only two points off Reform UK and five ahead of the governing party.
"Of those who voted Labour [in 2024], just 37% would vote Labour again".
Read that again to absorb the full, astonishing weight of what it means.
Starmer, Reeves and co have burnt their house down.

The rare earths race risks environmental disaster
Rare earth elements are essential for the green transition but the accelerating geopolitical race to reduce dependence on China carries great environmental risks.
"the accelerating geopolitical race to diversify and secure rare earth supplies carries a clear risk. In the rush to reduce dependence on China, environmental safeguards may be weakened or sidelined ... coordination is needed to prevent a ‘race to the bottom’."

Greening Up
The Green Party is becoming everything you might have wanted Labour to be.
"I cannot emphasise this enough: the only thing that would allow Nigel Farage’s party to take power is our unfair and undemocratic first-past-the-post system – and Starmer’s determination to maintain it"

MPs’ basic salary to rise to £110,000 by end of parliament, watchdog says
Ipsa cites rising abuse and constituency workloads as reasons for above-inflation increase of 5% from April
MPs’ basic salary to rise to £110,000 by end of parliament, watchdog says.
This should be accompanied by a total ban on second jobs, which in most cases is a corporate bribe. Must end all conflict of interests.
Being a MP is a full time job. MPs must act exclusively as MPs.

Well I would look to the sources of where you've heard about it, and how it's reported, but clearly we'll agree to disagree.
But do you mind me asking if you agreed with Andy Burnham not being allowed to stand at G&D? I am genuinely interested.

And you hear about Polanski's because it is being used by the right-wing press and others to discredit him - although there has been an attack article in the Canary from the left for his commitment to going to war under Article 5 of NATO (which as he noted the UK is committed to)

True - although Labour staff have more of a say than Greens, as that is not true re Greens. The Green party manifesto is written by member policy groups & voted on members. Even if you think Polanski & Farage are the same, Polanski was voted leader in a democratic party while Farage made up his own

You are saying Zac can't be trusted as he has previously swapped parties & is a populist. But saying you'll do one thing to get elected to Labour voters & saying a completely different set of things to get elected with a wider electorate is just swapping policies rather than parties, and populist!

That is a way of looking at it, but it seems that there are 2 ways of considering what happened at Gorton & Denton - one is to say that it is all down to the lying, bad Green leader. Another is to ask why many left-leaning voters have lost trust in Labour (& Keir Starmer).

🤯 Our understanding of the deep seafloor is based on a small & biased sample.
There is still so much to understand before large-scale industrial activity should be considered in these environments.
