So many people pine for a past that never was. Conservatism is just wishcasting on the nostalgia wavelength.
Except for the rich, whom we write all our stories about, we've never had one income homes as the norm. Two income, or 1.5 income. Even the proverbial "pin money" was never about buying pins, for goodness sakes. OP is pining for a past that never was.
She didn't name a generation. Why so quick to assume it's Boomers?
This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food
Rich kid says what?
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
It may be that, over a long enough time, anyone who has a skill will eventually be recognized as having more value than AI. But in the meantime, they will all lose their jobs.
THIS is the take on LLMs and the job market. They can probably do some jobs, which will worsen millions of people's lives. But much more than that, people who don't understand your job will assume that it is worthless, even more than they already do.
AI is an IQ test.
If you can get ID solely on the internet, then the ID only proves that you can use the internet.
Trump Ramps up 2020 Revenge by Targeting Vote Records in Second State Experts worry that Donald Trump is trying to create an excuse to take over midterm elections in battleground areas. ...
So, they found that firstborn children are more likely to get a diagnosis than younger siblings, in all test conditions. Looking forward to MAHA banning firstborn children.
According to DOGE flunky, a documentary about the experiences of Jewish women's slave labor during the Holocaust is "inherently discriminatory." Come ON.
The College Republicans of America just appointed a groyper as their political director. Kai Schwemmer was in Fuentes' inner circle in 2021, & since then has strategically downplayed his support to avoid controversy. CRA claims over 300 campus chapters across the country
The Republican Party:
I don't think you have to Nostradamus to figure that bombing Iran might raise oil prices. And it seems pretty obvious that buying oil in advance of causing an oil price spike might just save Americans a lot of money. But...
...maybe there wasn't much planning?
Headline and subhead: U.S. Tomahawk Hit Naval Base Beside Iranian School, Video Shows The evidence contradicts President Trumpβs claim that Iran was responsible for a strike at the school that killed 175 people, most of them children.
Good for the hed/dek writers at @nytimes.com just now:
Not "appears to contradict" or "is at odds with" or "may give rise to suspicions that."
Flat out: "Contradicts." "Video shows." About the US blowing up a school full of little girls.
And of course, terrible for the world.
The fact that Trump is even considering lifting oil sanctions on Russia while they are actively feeding Iran military intelligence against us is next level stupidity and self-loathing.

And again, if you're not enraged, you're not paying attention.
Our government is a big grift on the US population.
Trumpβs sons could be in for a payday over their fatherβs planned $1 billion-plus military equipment purchases.
Maybe they relied on AI to pick targets. But they bombed the school twice, hitting it again 40 minutes after the initial strike, in order to kill survivors and first responders. The mere *existence* of AI means no one has to be held responsible for this crime against humanity
This is exactly what everyone knew would happen. AI is the accountability sink. It gives plausible deniability to defer responsibility for the horrors onto something that can only make the noises of an apology
They want to spend American lives and treasure, but not risk pushback from the base or the Epstein class over high gas/oil prices.
The election of Trumpβboth of themβwill reduce the scope of every Americanβs future, as well as reducing the scope of who can be and will want to be an American
