So many people pine for a past that never was. Conservatism is just wishcasting on the nostalgia wavelength.
Except for the rich, whom we write all our stories about, we've never had one income homes as the norm. Two income, or 1.5 income. Even the proverbial "pin money" was never about buying pins, for goodness sakes. OP is pining for a past that never was.

This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
It may be that, over a long enough time, anyone who has a skill will eventually be recognized as having more value than AI. But in the meantime, they will all lose their jobs.
THIS is the take on LLMs and the job market. They can probably do some jobs, which will worsen millions of people's lives. But much more than that, people who don't understand your job will assume that it is worthless, even more than they already do.

Maybe they relied on AI to pick targets. But they bombed the school twice, hitting it again 40 minutes after the initial strike, in order to kill survivors and first responders. The mere *existence* of AI means no one has to be held responsible for this crime against humanity
This is exactly what everyone knew would happen. AI is the accountability sink. It gives plausible deniability to defer responsibility for the horrors onto something that can only make the noises of an apology
They want to spend American lives and treasure, but not risk pushback from the base or the Epstein class over high gas/oil prices.
