PhD defended! πŸŽ“

After years studying the developmental origins of pediatric brain tumors, I’m incredibly grateful to my supervisor Dr. VΓctor Borrell
@borrell-lab.bsky.social
and to all the mentors, colleagues, friends and family who supported me along the way.

On to the next chapter!

Reaffirming the value of model organisms in training scientific minds - Nature Cell Biology As biomedical research prioritizes human models and translational promise, classic model organisms are increasingly dismissed. Here we argue that they have a lasting value, both in enabling discovery and in cultivating scientific thinking, by training researchers in systems reasoning, integrative thinking and independent inquiry.

I am thrilled to share our latest story led by the incredibly talented Brooke D’Arcy and Camila Musso. We discover a rich world of local gene expression in radial glia, essential neural and glial precursors, and develop a new method for sub-cellular mRNA manipulation. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Cell-extrinsic controls over neocortical neuron fate and diversity Cell-extrinsic cues are key for neocortical cell identity and diversity.

Ever wondered how robust cellular identity is to external perturbations? Here we disrupt cellular environmnent in vivo and in vitro, and find cell population specific sensitivities. Environment sculpts development yes, but not all cells are made of the same wood. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

I guess genes have something to do on how big brains are. Genes do determine and change brain folds, as shown by a number of different studies from multiple labs worldwide.
