Cover of the book Children of Strife by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It has a green ringed planet with tendrils and/or tentacles growing out of the rings and a blue spacecraft heading toward the planet. A quote attributed to Andy Weir reads "An awesome story." --Andy Weird on Children of Time
Ope, Children of Strife is coming in 11 days! I gotta get moving on re-reading the series this week. Think I'll play the audiobook of Children of Time while I feed the spiders tomorrow. They'll enjoy it (the feeding, not the book, they are not great listeners).

My ridiculous HOA has a rule that you can't have a lawn decoration larger than 6 feet tall. That leaves a LOT of wiggle room. Bookmarking this.

Conservatism was always about valuing existing systems, property and tradition over human beings. It was about mocking, excluding, exploiting and vilifying those in the minority rather than embracing differences. It was intellectually incurious and morally bankrupt. Fascism is just one flavor.

I have to feed around 60 spiders tonight. In honor of today's events, each roach, BSFL and hornworm shall be lovingly named Kristi.

Hint to new sys admins/in-house dev employees:
Don't respond quickly to really stupid requests. If you let them simmer in the bright light of day for a bit you'll often find that they resolve themselves or just boil away into the ether, forgotten by all.

Email from CEO: Why was this decision made?
Me: This decision was outside my purview and I have yet to hear a sound explanation for its intended outcomes vs its actual outcomes. You might ask VP So-and-So.
CEO: You can just say VP So-and-So screwed up
Me: Gotcha

Some of my relatives used to complain my nephew was "looking butch" until he came out as trans and then they were all sorts of cool with "looking butch."
Anywho, he's doing great and he's firmly ensconced in our side of the Big Family Schismβ’.

A black cat lying on his side on a kitchen table that he damn well knows he is not supposed to be on. His legs are splayed showing all his nether bits. He has a smear of white on his coat which is very likely a bit of yogurt he has somehow stolen.
Here is a photo of a giant dork who is not supposed to be on the table, just for you.

Yes! I also have their brother. My habit is to buy three or five packs of spiders when they are tiny babies. That way I get to watch them grow and can compare them to their siblings! ( you also often get wholesale prices if you buy five)

Yeah, I've never had one jailbreak before or since. Running off during a rehouse, feeding or breeding, sure, but this guy just kept working his enclosure til he got the top off.
He's not matured yet but I have a very special lady for him! Hopefully they'll make beautiful resourceful babies.

I had a male cancerides who got out of his enclosure and free-ranged for 9 months. I had looked everywhere and finally gave up on him. Then one day he showed up in the middle of the floor, fat and happy. I guess he was helping himself to the roach bin.

IME phormictopus are very active spiders and can be a little jumpy. These particular sisters are really pretty chill. I don't recall any of them ever threat posing, although I do have a cancerides and an atrichomatus who have when startled.
The thing with this genus is they are always DOING THINGS
