And the potential for climate finance is huge.
In 2023, UK could have collected £5.9bn taxing jet fuel at the same rate as petrol, reports @transenv.bsky.social. Globally the figure would be astronomical.
The first step to unlocking these funds is to debunk the myth they're behind a legal barrier.
Aviation is responsible for 4% of all human-caused global heating up to 2021, yet continues to slip under the radar in flagrant violation of the #polluterpays principle.
Moreover it is predominantly enjoyed by the world's wealthy, with only 2-4% of the global pop. taking int'l flights.
A large part of #COP29 will be looking for sources of climate finance. Well... here's a juicy one.
