@dasalgon.bsky.social and @tevoelker.bsky.social show how far-right actors increasingly shape the agendas of mainstream parties, particularly around Islam, migration & cultural issues. #AfD

Can culture help to explain prejudice? We (@maxschaub.bsky.social) explore this question by examining the rise of antisemitism during the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany.

It's cold here. Time for gulasch I think.

The delayed acceptance of female research in economics lStephan B. Bruns, Anthony Doucouliagos d, Hristos Doucouliagos Johannes König , T.D. Stanley, Katarina Zigova https://doi.org/10.1016/j.euroecorev.2025.105204 Abstract We explore gender differences in the time taken to accept empirical articles of economics research. On average, female-authored articles take 9 % longer to accept. This gender gap cannot be fully attributed to differences in author affiliation, research productivity, research quality and novelty. The gender composition of editorial boards does not affect acceptance time for female authors. Nevertheless, this gender gap narrows as female representation in an area of research deepens. We find evidence of sub-field differences in this gender gap, consistent with differences in social norms.
A study on publication time focussing on differences between the gender-composition of authors.
"Sample averages show that all female-authored articles take about 9 % longer to accept [...] while female solo-authored articles take about 20 % longer to accept"

Poster for the “Sociological Ash Wednesday” event at the University of Cologne on 18 February 2026, 16:00–18:00, in lecture hall A2, with a background photo of the Cologne skyline and cathedral at sunset over the Rhine. Large white text announces the title “SOZIOLOGISCHER ASCHERMITTWOCH”, with green banner slogans reading “Universitäre Diskursräume” and “Zwischen Freiheit und Beschränkung”. The lower left lists a panel discussion with Claudia Diehl (Konstanz), Naika Foroutan (Berlin), Markus Ogorek (Köln), Uwe Schimank (Bremen) and Richard Traunmüller (Mannheim), moderated by Jan‑Martin Wiarda, and organisation credit to Clemens Kroneberg with a website link. The logos of the University of Cologne, the Adenauer School of Government and the WiSo Faculty’s 125‑year anniversary (1901–2026) appear at the top and bottom of the poster.
Cologne sociologist Clemens Kroneberg invites to the Sociological Ash Wednesday on 18 February at the University of Cologne.
This year’s high-calibre panel discussion focuses on how to deal with academic freedom and diversity of perspectives in universities and academic world.

Thrilled to see this article in print by my former colleagues at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
Brilliant article just out in PLOSOne: The overlap of gender and ethnicity/SES in school classes has large effects on friendship segregation.
The authors develop an easy fix:
Class placement minimizing gender consolidation decreases segregation by 4–7 percentage points.

Philosophers of migration: What in your opinion is the best single article/book that defends the right to exclude? Curious what the general opinion is here: Miller, Wellman, Walzer, Song, Blake, Pevnick, something else?
Note: I am not assuming that you agree with said article. #philsky #pol theory
As a researcher of internal and international migration, I pledge never to title any research output "Should I stay or should I go". 🤞
1. Less skilled labor is abundant. 2. Skilled emigration is a brain drain. 3. Development substitutes for migration. 4. Migration substitutes for failing development, but doesn't cause development.
The International Monetary Fund asked me to review the literature on migration economics to draw lessons for low-income countries.
In a new @iza.org paper, I argue that policy for the 21st century must discard four outdated ideas.

I get the feeling the concept of Advent calendar translates poorly to US English
Here is one for the mathematicians (I think): If you receive 4 referee reports with a total length of 2800 words, how can you produce a "concise" revision memo that "specifically addresses" every rev point and is "no longer than 2500 words"?
It's good they don't include the appendix in the final PDF!
This is somewhat in contrast to the recent sociological lit on ethnicity, which has focused on category consolidation and other contextual moderators of group formation, but is largely based on micro-level evidence, often from school-contexts.
Proper thread to come soon!
