This is an excellent article on why roads are more congested (50% more vehicles since 1990), & what to do to get traffic fluidity (bike lanes).
I learned some new words: the change from normal-sized cars to oversized SUVs is "tankerisation" & "autobesity."
Definitely worth to read in translation:
“Ice that may appear solid can quickly become thin and unstable. Residents are strongly urged to stay off all frozen lakes, ponds, and waterways,” the statement said.
Soldan, too, had an ice-safety message: He said one of the mottos from his detachment is “no ice is safe ice.”

Buckle up, it's going to be wild ride.
If there's anything New Orleans has taught us, it's that you gotta shake that thing.
Shake it!
It's fun. You'll like it.

Via Rail in the news.
Or should I say, "VIA Rail train is 5 hours and 15 minute late on a 5 hour train ride" in the news?
Fun fact: this doesn't even ever make the news, bc it's considered a "normal passenger rail trip" in Canada.
He know what he wants.

"Bikes make life freer. These laws could change that."
"Policymakers are making a basic form of transportation and a familiar element of childhood less accessible."
Need separate laws for e-"bikes", throttle-powered e-mopeds & e-motorcycles, but not like this.

Close-up of a scallop with its shell partially open, revealing bright orange inside. The scallop's shell is ridged with a line of tiny, vivid blue eyes along the edge. It rests on a sandy seabed.
Did you know that bay scallops have up to 200 eyes? 🤯
Made of guanine crystals, these small, mirror-like eyes behave like reflecting telescopes or concave mirrors—allowing scallops to see clearly close up and far away at the same time!
A useful website for monitoring Quebec flooding and river levels is

Which maintains a real time river-level observation map.

Lots of pictures and videos of the flooding and ice jam in the Chateauguay river in downtown Huntingdon on the face book.
Put "huntingdon flood" in the search box.
The power in a flooding river is incredible.
Had a dream where it was about the be April 1 and street parking restrictions return (for street cleaning) and I didn't know which side I had to park my car on. Car spends most of its life sitting waiting parked until It happily takes us to the start of another amazing country-road bike ride.
Worst ice storm in three years forecast for wednesday.
And in that ice storm three years ago we lost electricity for five days.
I myself have had nightmares (more than one!) about the Jean-Talon Metro station and my inability to know what is where vs where I am and need to go.
See the North icon in the picture pointing north beside the blue line? The Blue line is an east-west line and the Orange line is a north-south line.😱

Montreal weather today : Snowbanks are shrinking!
Châteauguay river has flooded south of Huntingdon.
Its not uncommon: photo from spring 2022 high-water season shows how close the river and the road are here.
This road was going to be our bike ride road on Tuesday.🤔
First ride is always to Powerscourt along the Chateauguay river, on that road!
TIL Rt 138, southwest of Montreal, which used to be called "Route 4" in my childhood, was called "The Montreal Malone Highway" before that.

Canada's MAID "dying-with-dignity" program is not the monster that some people who insist they have the right to force you and me to suffer (possibly for years & years) before your "soul goes to heaven" say it is.
This letter should be read out loud by every anti-MAID critic, zealot, or paid pundit.

We note that he rode that bike at full maximum speed.
Probably on a velodrome track but still... scary.
Less than 20 years later the bike we easily recognize as "the modern bicycle" had been perfected, thanks to Starley, Dunlop, and the Michelin brothers.
Today's loaf was baked in the parchment paper.
It *greatly eases* moving the dough from the bowl where it's been rising over and into the pre-heated pot.
