Also, to really stress the first point: I grew up watching shows which openly showed and talked about gay characters. It did not send me to therapy, ffs. If I did talk to my parents about it, they were fine with that, because parents should be prepared to talk to their own fucking kids about things.
1) Absolutely ridiculous to say the existence of gay people in a movie causes kids to go to therapy.
2) What a fundamentally stupid way to view art. "We don't want people to think about things!" No wonder so many recent Pixar films have felt toothless and small-minded.

It doesn't help that the bar for indie keeps getting higher and higher with each new project released, leading to stricter audience standards. We need a resurgence of animation where people can produce quality entertainment on barebones production values ala Hanna-Barbera and Williams Street. (3/3)
Like, every indie cartoon has to be a full-fledged series, have high-profile voice actors (or voice acting period), Richard Williams quality animation, 20-40 minute runtimes, etc. Not everyone has the luxury of connections and financial support to make these projects feasible. (2/3)
I hope I'm not going off topic, but this is why I personally think we need more small-scale projects. A major issue among the indie scene I've noticed is that everybody wants to make all their projects ambitiously grand-scale. THAT'S why it's not sustainable. (1/3)
