You're probably aware of @equalityalec.bsky.social's "Copaganda" which covers this kinda bullshit a lot, but if it's not on your radar I'd check out @osamahkhalil.bsky.social's book "A World of Enemies" which has a nice hefty chunk dedicated to how America turned criminals into enemies of the state.

'Pele of Palestine' killed by Israeli fire in Gaza aid queue | The National
Suleiman Al Obaid played for local football clubs as well as Palestinian national team
The IDF shot and killed "The Pele of Palestine", Sulaiman al Obaid, while he waited on line for food. No comment from FIFA. So we've made calls to FIFA. Whatever good that will do, at minimum aren't going to afford them the privilege of looking away. www.thenationalnews.com/news/mena/20...

Portal für Politikwissenschaft – Osamah F Khalil: A World of Enemies. America’s Wars at Home and Abroad from Kennedy to Biden
@harvardpress.bsky.social

Ta-Nehisi Coates quote, "We are at a moment right now where people are asking themselves why can't the Democratic Party defend this assault on democracy... and I would submit to you that if you can't draw the line at genocide, you probably can't draw the line at democracy."

PEOPLE V. UCLA
THREAD: It's been one year since the mob attack on UCLA's Palestine Solidarity Encampment. Most of what you've heard about this is completely wrong. I filed a lawsuit with a team of lawyers against UCLA and the mob attackers two weeks ago. Here's the real story. 1/13

12 UC Berkeley students' visas restored by ICE in nationwide reversal
At UC Berkeley, 12 students have had their status restored today after 23 were terminated since April 4.
One of the happiest updates I’ve written since I started following this story. 12 students back in status and maybe more to come. Across the country, students are saying their SEVIS is back.

Q&A: Alec Karakatsanis on the Media’s Role in Spreading ‘Copaganda’
A vital theme of my new book: how did liberal institutions--news outlets, professors, non-profits--help lead us to this authoritarian moment? What can we do about it? This is one of the most important interviews I've done: www.cjr.org/the_media_to...

When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance
In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...
In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."
The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.
One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:
