Don't get me wrong I am livid the TNS admin has been throwing both students and staff in chaos the last few years. It's a shame, unbelievable really that the folks that got TNS into this mess will get out of it the least scathed. /4

As I journeyed back to Melbourne, memories of times on top floor of 72 Fifth Ave reminded me of how special TNS was for me and how grateful I am to have been there -thrown into the diversity of skills, interests, and life histories of folks at TNS. It was the people that made the place special. /3
Yes, 7-8 years ago there were whispers in the corridor that they'd close the PhD program but never GPIA. Then the awful truth in the form of a messenger group chat. It confirmed that indeed GPIA will be 'indefinitely discontinued.' My heart sunk for friends and colleagues at TNS. /2
There are really no words to put it.. I celebrated the end of a symposium by opening this app where I came across a post about GPIA @ The New School being closed down. Throughout the day I kept thinking surely that isn't true. /1
Philippines congress is a bit of a theatre the past year. This latest one is no exception, lawmakers ranting about public pages and fake news to 'the meta' policy wonks / executives in the nat'l costume nonetheless. www.rappler.com/philippines/...
Tryna be low key but love how this paper describes the term 'kuyog' which literally means join but is now a reference to the Filipino youth's cancel culture ++ the introduction of vernacular visibilities. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...
ethnographic work may seem solitary but i'm so humbled by the conversations I have at the research site. not only are they sharing their insights but they are helping me assemble the puzzle, too.
i often joke that my research is similar to putting a 60,000 piece puzzle together. yday, a participant added coyly: '...and the truth lies somewhere in between.'
Word of the week comes from a megacorp newsletter. Impairment / impaired in corporate speak means something is less than itβs worth; hence, it is a fluffed up yet quick way of saying βyour company is a fckn liability.β Brutal. Literally. Figuratively.
I could! Originally it was more of a rolodex for the LMT Special Issue π Might need to add some categories or filters
+ a very refreshing waiting room read. instead of staring at the shiny thing, what if we thought about the value that (digital) work is actually producing: www.valueadded.tech/p/deepseek-p...
when studying a digital platform and another *platform* begins to vie for main character..
TBH the character limit is still as anxiety inducing as it was in 2009 and right now is not the time to be boxed in by that...any thoughts/musings/ruminations over 300 go in here -- edtechvalues.net#dotpoints. also still under construction and working my way backward starting with reading group no.3
ok, i had the bright idea of doing a βworking lunchβ at the office and well, that was hard. not a great multi tasker especially with a toastie in hand.
a lovely reminder of the value(s) of repair and how little we know about how we manage the frictions of implementing new tech. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
it's an interesting moment for the industry really... +5 years since COVID lockdowns, startups maturing. lots to unpack and hear the stories/voices from across the globe. looking forward to this special issue :)
in my interviews with edtech devs, we talked in length about the bits and bobs or buttons that go into your average LMS. suprisingly most of their efforts are not on content or curriculum but rather thinking through how best to accommodate the variety of family relationships /households.
+1 ! excited to read some excellent chapters. meanwhile, trying to make sense of the data iβve collected so far. contβd
2025 Q1 goal: finish fieldwork. stop fckn overthinking. kewl. seems..hmm achievable. but.
putting together a cheat sheet of people researching/writing about βmaking edtechβ across the globe. iβve got 80+ and counting. nice to witness the field expand!
despite the very dry 40 degrees weather today.. i am seeing the southern hemisphere appeal of an end/start of year holiday. stay cool melburrn
a sucker for most historical fiction esp one so close to home. βthe three-cornered sunβ by linda ty-casper is set during the 1896 Philippines revolution. @mlq3.bsky.social absolutely spot on the revolution was not only about independence from spain but also βa confrontation between filipinos.β
back home in 6000. thinking about βtether(s).β how KPIs are met on interfaces but actually physically tied to dodgy cables crisscrossing makeshift homes, and workers clocking 8-hr overnight shifts 6 days a week.
hmm whats the word to describe airport techβ¦ cool auto-reads my bag tag. not cool doesnβt recognise middle name?!
having been a member of twitter as a teen, it is great to NOT have those tweets hanging on to me here. but also what is a starter pack..
