In addition to impoverishing the US in the short term, Trump is committing his successor to either clean up the mess he has made, with further costs in US power, or else wash their hands of a US global role even to undo damage it has done, with further costs in US legitimacy.
I think they might have better luck spending two thousand dollars holding a press conference where they detail who made the key decisions to collaborate with the Trump administration, how and when they were fired, and explaining what would stop that from happening again.

All it takes to debunk the theory that thousands of kids were pushed into gender-affirming surgeries is to talk to literally any trans person who has tried to get gender-affirming care of ANY kind. It's extremely difficult.
