A little background here on the very long, very intense investigative work Aftermath published this week on the gamblification of gaming sites. Glad that the reporting has resonated with people and hope to see more support for independent media grinding it out.
SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, March 12th will be STELLATHON: A FUNDRAISER FOR YOUR COOL ONLINE FRIEND.

inconclusive! I know sites like defector have been working to develop a reddit strategy, so Iβm guessing it does something, lol. if anyone wants to share aftermath stories on reddit, feel free. certainly canβt hurt
Great journalism takes time β a lot of time. If you want more of it, thereβs really only one option: Youβve gotta support it. @jacksonwryan.com, who just published an eight-months-in-the-making report on a secretive gambling company, explains:
Our tiny little website currently has the 4th-placed story on r/all, which is doing all kinds of weird and beautiful things to our monthly traffic (which doesn't normally operate at anywhere near that scale)
Amazing work from @nicolecarpenter.bsky.social, as always!

AI shouldnβt be anywhere near a warzone because AI canβt be sentenced to death at a tribunal.
If you took $1 billion and gave it to the endowment of a different small college each day, they could each provide a free college education to several hundred students per year in perpetuity. Instead we are using that money to bomb schools and kill students in Iran, for no clearly stated purpose.

I think what's struck so many people about the White House CoD meme--or at least what struck me--is how, unlike Pokemon or Halo, there's way this one, in a fucked-up way, makes "sense," which says as much about games as it does about the 12-year-olds in our government.
is there any way they can unmake it instead of reviving it
we're live!
Come to think of it, like 80% of my βgames journalismβ intake these days is from a spread of independent sourcesβ¦
And itβs been pretty damn great.

On today's stream, we're joined by @jacksonwryan.com to discuss his months-in-the-works investigation of Clickout Media, the secretive company filling video game sites with gambling and AI, that he published on Aftermath. NOTE: Starting early today, at 3 PM ET

A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.
I continue to be less concerned about people getting duped by obvious AI lies and more by instances of mass psychosis in which AI lets people see what they want to see
