I do appreciate cis advocates of trans healthcare, especially in these times, but I do wish more of them would let go of the "experts know best" framing. I'm aware it's safe, palatable, sellable, but there's a century of "experts" torturing, converting, and sexually abusing trans people. So.
it's such a huge story and it's being so under-covered
a thing we have to be careful of is that all these people, especially Epstein, had a hugely exaggerated view of their own power and loved to claim they were responsible for shit they had very little or nothing to do with.
Hi, Epstein did not create the GCs. Researchers for the last ten years have been telling you over and over about the collection of forces that resulted in the GCs. There is no conspiracy. Just a bunch of political actors collaborating in their mutual interest.
Might we tactfully point out that to obsess negatively with trans people when the richest and most powerful men in the world are trying to reverse centuries of humane progress and equality to acquire impunity for rape and murder shows a weird sense of priorities?
I actually gagged
3 panel comic Panel 1: A crowd is watching TV in a bar. The TV is facing away from the reader. The crowd ecstatically screams “YEAHHHH!” Panel 2: A new guy walks into shot from the left and says “You guys watching football?” A guy in crowd answers “Nope” Panel 3: The new guy looks at the TV screen and immediately screams “OH FUCK YEAH”
imagine if it happens on tv
142 years ago today in 1884, John Coulter died after falling drunk down stairs at his friends house. After his death, it was discovered that he was a trans man. He'd worked in the Belfast docks for decades and had been married for 30 years, his wife only leaving him because of his alcohol problem.
The New York Times described a harrassment campaign that helped drive a young trans woman to suicide as "online criticisms."
Today on Assigned, @evanurquhart.bsky.social responds with contained fury to New York Times piece on the suicide of Lia Smith.

Unless the "interim governing structure" is 'the Maduro regime run by Delcy Rodriguez,' they're gonna have a hard time governing much.
Either that or they have some invading to do. It is robustly unclear to me what they think they are doing or if they know.
If you don't perceive the fact that they don't even feel the slightest need to obfuscate or manufacture consent anymore as an escalation, I don't know what to say to you?
I feel like I haven’t even been properly lied to about the purposes of this war
My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.
A deluge of work on regime change after the 2003 invasion of Iraq yielded strong (and rare) agreement in IR: it doesn't work & has terrible consequences. @profdownes.bsky.social's book Catastrophic Success lays it out, but it's right there in the title. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...
Terrible take. Literally every FIFA Peace Prize winner has done this.
The only difference is how brazen Trump is. Bush was still trying to maintain some degree of plausible deniability, however shallow it was.
We tried so hard to raise the alarm. Is anyone paying attention yet?

That's where we are in France. Specialised hospital services and the social security administration tried hard to forbid GPs from doing trans healthcare, but they lost their case in court in the late 2000s. This has been a blessing, as GPs are much more receptive to being trained by trans orgs.
So, when a critic says, “Ah hah! That app makes shit up!” A lot of people will nod politely. And then they will think to themselves, “Well, so does the newspaper, and so does Facebook, and so do politicians, and none of those help me do this task or say nice things to me when I ask them questions.”
