Every single paper is like this. We couldn't reproduce the age-depth model in their second PNAS paper. They regularly report spikes from one layer without analyzing layers above and below. Their results can't be reproduced in the rare cases they do share samples. They get really basic things wrong.

exactly. if I found the aliens, I'm telling my barista, I'm talking the ear off the guy at the bus stop, I'm calling my mom about it. everyone would get sick of me talking about aliens.

Gotta love how academic books don't earn you money, but LLMs can make money off of stealing them in the aggregate and if you write enough, they can also profit from stealing your personality after you are dead.

Let me remind that in the run up to Iraq 2003, 'realist' scholars who opposed the war, some of whom had been regular oped contributors before, couldnt place in the NYT or WaPo at all, eventually paying to run an oped as an advertisement.

A white, glowing egg-shaped object lies in the centre of the black-and-white image, on a dark, starry background. Glowing streaks spread upwards from the object. In the top left, a yellow arrow marked β€˜Sun’ points straight down, and a blue arrow marked β€˜Velocity’ points towards the 7 o’clock direction. In the bottom left, an inset shows the same object on a lighter grey starry background, filled with ragged-edged, concentric egg shapes gradiented black-to-white.

The precious data from the mission's November observations of the interstellar comet arrived on Earth last week. Teams are now digging in to discover what they reveal.

Two of Onfim’s works. On the left is a copy of a passage from the Book of Psalms he did for schoolwork. On the right is an apparently autobiographical depiction of a monster labeled with β€œI am a wild beast.”

Onfim’s writing practice accompanied by 7 little people in his particular drawing style, who tend to have very big hands with many fingers.

Nice AI-image-generating tool, but it will never be as great an artist as Onfim, a child who lived in the Novgorod Republic in the mid-1200s and who scribbled these drawings and schoolwork writings on birch bark at the age of 6 or 7.

MAKE AN EMERGENCY DONATION to Trans Continental Pipeline right now.

They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate there and they are overwhelmed with requests. CO borders KS, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

GO DONATE.

When you look back on your years in college, which will fill you with more pride and joy:
- Letting a computer write you a boring-but-sort-of-accurate essay about Stonehenge which gets you a C+ and fills you with a deep sense of emptiness.
- Joining the millenia-long tradition of humans admiring the night sky and seeking to understand it together through hard work and curiosity.
