Complete with being pretty much unsolvable without a great deal of luck and wasted resources!

When I first heard that at like, age 12 or whatever, it took 5 seconds of thinking to go "Well, probably most people are generally proportional, so bigger/smaller people are on average probably bigger/smaller everywhere."

Given that any acronym whose origin is claimed to predate the 1920s-40s is almost certainly a backronym and not actually legitimate, pretty wild that people would believe "cis" a word that is, you know, a couple thousand years old, is one.

The best thing to come from Tim Allen has been source material for Neil Cicierega.

The Tim/Al dichotomy is basically a microcosm of the entire last 20 years of specific extremely foolish fools trying to bootstrap themselves into being the Great Man of the Age.

If you don't take it literally, all that is left is "The purpose of this question is to get you to become okay with the idea of sacrificing sufficiently undesirable people in the name of preserving the people deemed worthy."

11.03.2026 16:08 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I hope it's not lost on you that the actual underlying premise of it is to get you comfortable with the idea that sacrificing or outright killing some people, as long as they're the right (wrong) kind of person, is something you should be okay with.

11.03.2026 16:07 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Curious to know how many of these "But the point is that you have a binary choice, you HAVE to pick one or the other" people were also big fans of the "I reject your question" guy.

11.03.2026 16:05 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It's not meant to represent a situation that is out of your control, because the entire premise of the thing is that you, the one being presented with it, are standing at the switch with complete control over the outcome. You're just told that only two options are allowed. There can be other options

11.03.2026 16:03 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But there's no issue with the alternative of "Allow the trolley operator/company/person standing at the switch to keep murdering 1-5 innocent people over and over"?

11.03.2026 15:59 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Can they not jump off? Or use the emergency break? Or overpower the operator who wants to run people over?

When have you ever seen a Trolley Problem that actually positively asserts the presence of a bunch of innocent passengers as well?

11.03.2026 15:58 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

All we can presumably conclude with any certainty is that there's an operator on the trolley who could have stopped it, or sabotaged it, or at least refused to operate it. When have you ever seen a trolley problem that positively asserted the trolley was also full of innocent people?

Don't forget the antisemitism! Lots of support for a Jewish ethnostate from people who see it as a way to make sure there aren't any in THEIR state anymore.

Some of the puns are pretty obscure just from age and time as much as subject matter. I remember being extremely perplexed by a story told in one book, about an ape escaping from the zoo at Christmas, but nobody being in danger because "Yule gibbons eat only fruit and nuts"

11.03.2026 14:55 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Also, if you enjoy this kind of wordplay, and have already exhausted your available Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett, I very much recommend Spider Robinson as your next stop. Just as clever, a little more lewd, and leaning a little harder into obscure puns, but hilarious and interesting.

Yeah, I assume that in fact, he just missed a crosswalk and went out into traffic and got hit by a car? I definitely had no idea "zebra crossing" was the name of anything other than a place where zebras crossed a thing.

11.03.2026 14:52 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I spent many years confused by

"And for an encore, man went on to prove that black is white and was killed at the next zebra crossing"

Because, not being British, I was imagining somehow that this confusion led to him being unable to see zebras, and getting trampled or something.

"Furthermore, I agree with Neil deGrasse Tyson" is an automatically disqualifying remark if you're not talking exclusively about astrophysics.

It's one part of a large thread detailing every change, as good reporting should do? I'm more concerned about somebody pulling that one post out as a quote to try and seem like that was the sole focus of the thread.

The gag was that he didn't know he was a physical adept, and just thought he was really good at fighting, and actually had an aggressive disdain for both cyberware and use of magic in combat, which he considered cheating. Personality wise he was basically a more smug Johnny Cage.

Thinking about my old Shadowrun character "Thunder" Jimmy Cox, who was a physical adept who didn't know he was a physical adept, and whose techniques were named using a pro wrestling move generator, including his big move "Dog Tornado of Inescapable Torment" which once killed 6 men in one round.

I know how it's come to be used. "I'm going to leverage this phrase like a magic spell that means I can continue to love and support things made by horrible people". I just don't think that's what it is MEANT to mean.

A series of Bluesky post responses back and forth between Jon Moxin and Emily Nussbaum

John: 100% staged

Emily: Word?

John: Come on. Too prepared, too fast, feels like an improv exercise. Either that or I have no joy left in my soul, and that's horrifying.

Emily: Have you watched the entire video, sir?

John: Ok. Eating shit now. Yum.
