I don't fully agree with the abstract: observational data being discarded in trial design due to bias concerns is in my experience far less common than a "who cares about bias just throw in the data" attitude, but anything that makes leveraging existing data more efficient and robust is a win.
n=50 and such, so this is at best an incremental study, but it's a good framing . And note that the study of at least partially online, strongly asymmetric conflicts is for sociology, etc, pretty much the equivalent of the proverbial non-elephant biology.
As a (very large!) second-order effect, note that corruption does not just directly degrade capabilities: to sustain and extend itself is *has* to degrade institutional cognitive systems. There are thresholds past which this sort of damage becomes self-sustaining as well.
I confess I didn't know how bad things had been. It's not surprising he continued to have a career including (up to?) an Avengers movie, but JFC "unsurprising" isn't "acceptable."

I'm not familiar enough with the food system to comment on this but if the analogy with their takeover of other hyperscale cognitive architectures applies -and I think it does- then, yeah, not good. We're living thru what they did to the public sphere.

Not unrelated to the above. We aren't *quite* there yet (yes, often, for proving theorems, not for solving more concrete problems) but I think it's part of the overall promise of Category Theory: The Type System of Science [1]

A personal rule of thumb is that pretty much almost always the best way to solve a problem is to find a non-injective function that goes from its current representation to one there's already a solver for.

This oversells by several orders of magnitude Trump's pre-Venezuela carefulness, but it does highlight how good of a fit are Trump and -as a system and only half-consciously- the US' concept of a power gap so large it makes analysis or collaboration unnecessary.

The problem isn't that this isn't useful to senior developers --ceteris paribus, it is-- the problem is it doesn't improve the rate limiting speed, while managers, thinking it does, actively churn the resources that *are*.

Hard agree on the impact of actual journalism, but what worries me is leverage through audiences with outsized economic or political influence (although I have to concede that CNN might not fall in that group; I'm probably prey to nostalgia).
[1] I know, ahistorical comparisons are unfair, the shoulders of giants, etc. But _sub specie aeternitatis_ I stand by it[2].
[2] And isn't time simultaneous, an intricate jewel, etc?

While @jlray.bsky.social is absolutely right about that side of things, I do worry about asymmetry: X or the Washington Post have systemic impacts by virtue of _who_, not just _how many_, reads them. That said, I don't know who's to CNN what a certain group of pundits is to X.
