A painting of Mozart from the eighteenth century. Mozart’s head and shoulders are visible. He is dressed in a dark coat, with a white shirt with frills at the collar. He wears a grey wig. He is looking into the distance.

Mystery solved! Thank you to one of our social media followers who identified this tune as Delyow Sevi, a traditional Cornish tune.

According to the Cornish National Music Archive records of this tune date back to 1698 when it was sung to Thomas Tonkin, the Cornish scholar, by Edward Chirgwin.

Here’s a moment from rehearsals for our performance with the Choir of St Philip’s Church, directed by Sam Coates, in April.

This painting of Vauxhall Gardens is set in the 18th century. People are walking through trees, enjoying the atmosphere. There is a building to the right which has a raised platform. This is the orchestra building that the original Vauxhall Band used to perform from.
