I highly recommend finding the original set! Such great music and a real piece of industrial music history. 7/7
This set had a huge impact on my music and on my life. And when the time came to release Terminal Days, I knew I wanted to pay homage to it somehow. Hence the special edition cassette, which is wrapped in aluminum tape, packed in a fishnet bag, and has all sorts of goodies. 6/
Over years of moving from apartment to apartment it went missing. At some point I just didnβt have it anymore. Eventually that mattered less as the world moved to streaming. But as Iβve gotten back into physical media, I had to snag one off eBay. 5/
Inside the box was also three beer coasters, a patch, a poster, a great booklet & a birdβs nest of cassette tape that, if spooled, played the Black Box promo cassette that was released ahead of the full set.
I bought my copy at Tower Records the week it came out. I was 19. 4/
The Black Box is a triumph, three CDs of rarities, oddities, b-sides & remixes, all housed in an actual steel box, which was itself packaged in a fishnet baggie with a numbered label (10,000 copies made). 3/
The Black Box was originally released in 1994 to celebrate 13 years of the legendary industrial, punk & alternative label. Included among the bands Wax Trax cultivated, released, or distributed are Ministry, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Revolting Cocks, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult⦠2/
VERY FEW copies of the Terminal Days: Special Edition tape remain! Itβs inspired by the Wax Trax Records Black Box compilation. Donβt know what that is? Read on! π§΅1/

I forgot I had a Helios Type 69 preamp plugin that I grabbed during UADβs last sale. I finally opened it on a vocal track & was like, βHm, whatβs this switch do? OH! IT DRIVES THE SIGNAL LIKE ITβS FORMULA-FUCKING-ONE.β Gotta love a good vocal distortion. βοΈποΈπ₯π€

Ugh, joy. So much for enjoying the moment.
Fuck off angry you puppy-shooting psycho. I hope the rest of your life is miserable.
Sadly, her replacement will likely be somehow worse, but Iβm gonna enjoy this moment while I can.

Siiiiick. Iβm on it! Just sent you a question on discord.
Absolutely!
Added a classic FM synth to the sonic arsenal: Yamahaβs TX802 (β87). Itβs basically a juiced-up & racked DX7 MkII. Giant pain to program but soβs all FM synthesis; apps like Patch Base make it easy. This is killer for eighties pads, metallics & basses.

I needed some band photos to help promote the release of Terminal Days, so my friend, photographer @ponycargirl.bsky.social came by and shot these in my apartment buildingβs weird murder basement. (Lol)

New gear day! Alesis HR-16B drum machine (1990). Total time capsule w/original box, merch inserts & everything. Sounds KILLER. 16-bit samples specifically designed for aggressive electronic music. Much heavier than the standard HR-16.

Oh hey! I had a good toy auction. Popy Cyborg series Ninja Arashi figure from 1970. About 4β tall. I love vintage vinyl toys that have cool internal details inside them. These things are little gems. Iβve got most of the Cyborg series, still missing two of them. The hunt continues!
What I chase when Iβm not buying synthsβ¦ Vintage Japanese toy auction happening soon!
Oh cool, Iβll have to check out MiRack once Iβve wrapped my head around things a bit more. Thanks!
Iβll periodically update on what I think of the course. So far it seems worth the money (about US $700 if paid all at once) but weβll see if that holds true by the end. Regardless, playing with VCV is a blast. :)
I do muuuch better when I have a structure & a course to guide me. Since I donβt know what I donβt know, Iβm not always sure what questions to ask or videos to look for. Iβve got a friend whoβs deep into modular & I can ask him questions but I want a more formal foundation as well. 1/
Itβs exciting to learn something new, to fill in the holes in my self-educated synth base. Iβm looking forward to seeing how it all folds into the music Iβm working on, and how itβll help shape the sonic future of Negative Agent. 8/8
Thereβs a paid version that works as a VST inside a DAW & I MIGHT consider that down the road. But I could also use the synths I build to spit out audio that gets sampled and brought back into Cubase. Lots of options. And of course thereβs a good chance Iβll build hardware synths as well. 7/
Using VCV Rack is key. The course is hands-on, and if we needed to buy hardware synths itβd be a huge and expensive mess. This program is killer, there are more than 3000 modules available to mess with - many free - and it all sounds fantastic. No idea how they can afford to give this thing away. 6/
Iβve been really impressed with the LSS course so far. More than 40 hours of well-produced videos, multiple meet-ups and Q&A sessions via Zoom, even open mic sessions. Thereβs also a nice forum-based community of current and former students. 5/
