During the Second Reading of the Representation of the People Bill, MP after MP got up to point out what's missing from it: fixing the voting system.
The problems with FPTP can no longer be ignored - and neither can the growing calls for PR. π£
Here are just a few highlights:

π£ "We no longer live in a two-party system, and if we continue to have an electoral system that doesn't acknowledge that fact, we will have, as Professor @robfordmancs.bsky.social says, elections that lead to even more chaotic and unpredictable results."

"Evidence shows that PR leads to higher turnout, more representative governments and more stable policymaking."
Yesterday in Parliament, several MPs raised the urgent need to fix our voting system.

Our voting system is broken.
It's time for a change that truly reflects what voters want.

How the UKβs dependency on cars slows down the economy
Clogged up Britain
car dependency is crippling the UK theconversation.com/how-the-uks-... "for the UK to be more like Singapore, the government needs to make motorists pay much more for their car use. To be more like the Netherlands, it must take away their space"

Unless there's an unbreakably valid safety reason why not, all button-operated pedestrian crossings should activate the lights in pedestrians' favour instantly when pressed.

Car brand BYD's new SUV ad pokes fun at people walking and cycling, comparing them to Horse & Carts.
It joins a long list of car ads that sell a false promise of convenience and aspiration while punching down at sustainable transport modes.
So I made it a bit more realistic...

'Just getting started': Zack Polanski reacts as Greens SECOND in new poll
ZACK Polanski has welcomed a new poll putting his party in second place at Westminster.
So either Labour need to ask candidates to step aside for the Greens to take on Reform....
Or actually bring in a fair democratic process where everyone's votes count equally.
It's time for Proportional Representation.

Divine intervention may be needed to get an unbroken cycle route between Abingdon and Europa School / Culham Campus (should be a safe & direct 15 min journey!).

UNLAWFUL ARREST
This woman was arrested for holding a sign with βI do not support the proscription of Palestine Actionβ on it, a totally lawful statement to make, even under the Labour governmentβs absurd new laws proscribing the direct action group.

If I'm reading the data correctly it suggests 5% of reform voters think yes they are racist (and proud presumably).
And 20% of that group seem to think the party and policies are not racist enough.
Is that fair @yougov.co.uk (not checked the sample size, maybe just a couple of cranks)

I'm pleased to have been appointed @libdems.org.uk Transport Spokesperson.
Transport should be an enabler of a thriving economy, social mobility, and preventing climate change, and I will campaign for affordable and reliable public transport, walking and cycling, and roads that work for all.

Read the report - Passengers not profit: a vision for the Railways Bill
The government's upcoming Railways Bill should include these reforms if it is serious about delivering for passengers.
The government is bringing rail into public ownership after 30 years of failed privatisation
To make this succeed they must
πset up Great British Trains
πstop wasteful competition
πcreate a national railcard
πgive passengers a real say
πINVEST like Switzerland does

Interesting, it's definitely got a massive choice at the moment, and always a fan of Big Dave's quiz, but the Sussex Best has been vinegar the last few times I've tried it. Keep having to go to backup lagers for safety.
