Is silencing pain neurons the ultimate goal? Do you see opportunities here to dampen their activity- and wouldnβt that be preferred? What does this say about its clinical use? π€
What a great and entertaining writing workshop with Steve Padilla of @latimes.com full of expert tips to make our stories sing. Bottom line: whatβs the story? What you say is more important than how you say it. What fun! #HJ25 #freelance

As the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress and Chair Emerita of @capac.house.gov, I am disgusted by Secretary of State Marco Rubioβs statement that the U.S. will 'aggressively' revoke visas for Chinese students.
Congrats!! This wonderful program is what started it all for me in #scicomm @aaasmassmedia.bsky.social @latimes.com This year's class will need a special kind of gumption. Be brave! I believe in you!
This exactly sums up our US science infrastructure, which has been built over a century and is the envy of the world, one of our nationβs greatest strengths. And itβs being destroyed right now.

The last 2 weeks have been a blur, but sadly I'm no longer at the NIH. Working for #painresearch at the NIH was a great honor and the best job of my life. As part of this amazing team, I'm proud to have worked on the HEAL 2025 Annual Report - pls share! heal.nih.gov/about/nih-he...
Here is a link to the draft report; hopefully a finalized version is coming soon for sharing widely! heal.nih.gov/files/2025-0...
And it's unanimous! The NINDS Advisory Council has approved the HEAL pain research priority recommendations.
Great comments from council members, lots of energy around the idea I keep hearing: the need to educate the public, let people know what NIH researchers do, and the tremendous value of basic research leading to new treatments for #pain
...and another priority focused on building an evidence base for non-pharmacological therapies for pain and how to best use them, including understanding underlying biological mechanisms. These powerful treatments are used as trial and error; we need to know about dosing, timing.
Picked up by Co-Executive Chair Dr. Kathleen Sluka, describing the research priority to prevent the development of #chronicpain across the lifespan with biomarkers, better understanding of biology and #resilience
...and now Rob describing the ten broad, recommended research priorities, in no particular order. Support for building on the great success of HEAL with further discovery...
