If you are planning to remove your garden pond, consider contacting someone who is an expert and can help with the remaining animals and move them into another pond. 5/5

This example just shows that garden ponds can be extremely important for dragonflies, and that one should never underestimate the potential of a garden pond as a habitat harbouring a large number of individuals. 4/n

These were all moved to two other garden ponds (many thanks to those offering their garden ponds as a refuge!). There are probably still a few larvae left, so a colleague will take over and help on Monday. 3/n

I was called yesterday and asked if I could check this pond before it gets drained, so I took some equipment and started collecting larvae around 10:30. After ca. 1:15 h, I managed to collect 146 Aeshna cyanea larvae, a common frog (Rana temporaria) and two great pond snails (Lymnea stagnalis). 2/n

PhD opportunity!
Focusing on ecological processes offers an adaptive approach to conservation at a time of rapid environmental change
But how do we measure & conserve these processes?
This PhD will explore the use of species traits to assess ecosystem condition
