One reason I rant about the gentry as often as I do is because "the same rich assholes want us all gone" is a powerful starting point for solidarity.

And hey, these lessons apply everywhere.
Again, the removal of three awful bigots is a good thing. But we've got a bad history of natl media declaring victory in NC, then turning elsewhere. It's cost us badly.
Amount of people against quisling Dems is promising β as a sign of pro-trans support that could be mobilized outside elections...
Obviously, Josh Stein is in the governor's mansion for awhile. So there's a substantial faction of NC Dems who are fine with anti-trans laws, just rolled out a bit more slowly and with less fanfare. Historically the party as a whole's been fine with that too (e.g. the fake repeal of HB2)...
Two anti-trans laws passed in NC last year. HB805 was a slew of anti-trans measures on everything from documents to state healthcare. Vetoed, but overriden due to Majeed's support.
But SB442, sanctioning abuse of trans kids, passed with *nine* Dems in support. Democratic Gov. Stein signed it...
Some background: I've lived in NC all my life. I've covered politics here for 20+ years. I was in the trenches during the fight against HB2.
I did a longform piece last year on NC Dem collaboration on anti-trans laws and the history of repression they're part of. Worth a read for more context:
Surely this is not shocking, but Rogan had most of the big anti-trans scientists that my reporting found to be in the Epstein files on his podcast.
Krauss even tried to connect Epstein to Rogan at one point.
Enheduanna.
Not shocking the white house is using a video montage with Kylo Ren screaming "more" for its latest imperial horror.
A pathetic would-be despot throwing a tantrum with an arsenal of weaponry and failing, badly, is pretty apt.
Yes, and get the history in all those places and times dead wrong too.
I did the math once and the cost of covering gender healthcare Medicaid for all 180,000 trans recipients is around $1 billion dollars. For *ten years.*
That's the amount of money being burnt in Iran every single day, to bomb schoolchildren.
Thank you for doing so. That it is.
You are just a person, trying to find work, shelter, food and healthcare. Your in-game currency is called "money" and you can only legally get it from work. However the ratio of $/s is extremely low. And the aforementioned cults can and WILL fuck up that ratio whenever possible.
It's 2026, and America has fallen into dystopia. The AI-God Cult is confused as to why there is backlash against their Brain-Eating-Plagiarism-Machine God, the Evangelical-God Cult is confused as to why THEIR sons are being sent on a holy war in the Middle East by the MAGA-God Cult's Melting King.
I'm so sorry. I hope you feel better soon.
This is one reason I absolutely adore @mariadahvana.bsky.social's Beowulf.
In actual practicality? Probably sucks.
As something for a character to draw in a steampunk fantasia? Fucks. Good lord does it fuck.
Firefly is the perfect sci-fi to embody this political moment (derogatory).
This was, once upon a time, a thread over on another site. I think it's worth reviving here.
Anyway, the traditional "way things were" so beloved by reactionaries was largely made up by some terrible 19th century hacks who even then couldn't ever hammer all the old stories enough to fit into their bullshit racist project.
The past is, blessedly, too goddamn complicated for that.
Anglo-saxons: Heroes are fragile things. The constant urge for glory and war will lead to nothing but a dead, buried heap of old metal.
Celtic epic: Rage and hypervigilance are a path to the doom of all around you. The land has its own rules; do not ignore them. Be very careful what you promise.
It's always funny what gets left out of "tradition" and "the West"
Mesopotamia: Reams of poetry written by a trans woman, epic about trauma, grief and failure.
Greece: Queer loss and the futile brutality of war, societies brought to ruin by aristocratic pride. Also everything Sappho wrote.
"The working classes have always been the caring classes β not just because they do almost all of the caring labor, but also because, perhaps partly as a result, they actually are more empathetic than the rich. Psychological studies show this, by the way. The richer you are, the less competent you are at even understanding other peopleβs feelings. So trying to reimagine work β not as a value or end in itself, but as the material extension of caring β is a good start." . - David Graeber
You should be able to criticize your government anonymously online.
Full stop.
"Age verification" legislation is just a pretty name for "forced online ID checks," meaning everything you post is associated with your government name
We have to stop this.

Thank you so much!
Thread, and a needed reality check about what's going on in NC.

From long experience in N.C., I like to remind folks of the following lessons from fighting our enemies: be relentless, be uncompromising, attack their money and put not your faith in politicians.
