the $400 billion figure is the amount that China theoretically agreed to in 2021 over a 25 year period. the amount *actually* spent so far is something like $3 billion, we think, or roughly a third of the direct cost of the Iran war to the U.S. so far.

I kept my WSJ sub because although the opinion section is trash the news writing is very good.
Maybe I should just sub to the FT, the best newpaper for the Left, and for enjoyers of reality-based news.
