Once in a while I get a call or an email asking me to tune a guitar. If I were less scrupulous I would take these jobs and charge for them, but everyone knows that you are just going to have to tune it again when you get it home. I don't understand why some people think this is a professional job.

Putting shielding in a Silvertone Bobcat. I make sure that the screws anchoring the pickguard also increase contact between the shielding on the pickguard and the shielding in the cavity as well as directly connecting the electronics.

Also scratch or write you name under the pick guard or truss rod cover. My 1979 Strat was stolen and because I did this I was able to prove it was mine to the police. Still have that guitar today.

It's a good idea to add a note to guitars you would never sell and hide it someplace that a repair person might find it. It's a long shot, but its one more thing you can do to help recover an instrument if its stolen.

I added an AirTag to my guitar today. I wrote "property of Andrew Jones" on it to make sure if it's stolen I have proof that the instrument is mine if it's tracked down. I did remove the speaker so it's not findable by the thief.

I discovered my guitar needed a bridge reglue. I built this 20 years ago this year so considering that this is my first acoustic, that's a pretty good run with little in the way of structural repair.

West Seattle Guitar Repair. All Fretted Instruments Welcome.

I just ordered some AirTags to install in a few of my instruments. Having had a few stolen, I feel like it's the least I can do to protect my babies. I recommend both this and hiding a note on the guitar for future repairmen with your contact info.

Today I am doing setup work on one of my own builds. It's a cedar top OM with mahogany back and sides with an ebony fretboard. Its got little footprint inlays on the fretboard because I thought they were cool.

In some cases you can’t get away from needing to put in reinforcement. I’d say on the second break and if you don’t have much left to glue it if you have a twelve string like this one.

Headstock repair (in progress) slots were routed, carbon fiber splines glued in for reinforcement and the slot smoothed out with epoxy putty. The next steps are smoothing out the glue joint and giving it a shot of black finish.

One of my least favorite jobs is using sand paper strips to adjust neck angle for neck resets and joining new banjo necks, but it is satisfying when it's done.

3 headstock reglues, a bridge plate retainer, Pick guard reglue and a nut carved. It's been a pretty busy day!
