As a writer, one of the most useful books I own is Nöfn Íslendinga (The Names of Icelanders). It lists, in alphabetical order, all the names that Icelanders have ever born*. It's so useful when naming characters and it's now online!
*A precedent does not mean that the name would be allowed now.
