a lectern with microphones is placed in the street in front of an ice detention center in broadview, illinois.
i’m outside the ice jail in broadview, illinois, where community members and electeds are holding a press conference after six people, including three u.s. citizens, were abducted from o’hare airport and detained for more than 40 hours.
feds took the six people to wisconsin before repeating them.

I remember how sick it felt to breathe in New Orleans while the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was burning over 100 miles away. Or in Chicago when we get wildfire smoke from the west.
This must be absolute hell.

RCV would really help fix politics on a structural level. I think that's why so many power players *hate* it.

I've voted in 3 states, all with different systems that are intentionally built to make it hard for voters to hold elected officials accountable.

We are <10 days out from the IL primary. A lot of people that I know are more focused and involved in politics than ever and almost all of them, even the ones who are doing cool and inspiring stuff, are talking about what a feel bad election this is. I think that is extremely important.

I'm still surprised to find so many structurally conservative election practices in Illinois. No runoffs for fields with this many candidates creates a spoiler effect on steroids.

Going to early vote today & IL state 13 is a good reminder why ranked choice voting is so important in primaries.
(IL US House 9 is also a good example but I don't live there.)

Remember this when you're having trouble paying your bills, or wondering why your roads and bridges suck, or why there's a budget shortfall for public schools, or why your neighbor was bankrupted by a hospital visit, or why your national parks and public lands have been closed and sold.

With Us or Against Us, Again
Congress didn’t authorize this war, and the only response to questions is a loyalty test we’ve fallen for before.
Afghanistan started at 92 percent approval. Iraq started at 71. Iran started at 27. The "whose side are you on" rhetoric is identical. The country underneath it isn't. I wrote about how the framework works, and who's deploying it. www.readtpa.com/p/with-us-or...

There's been a lot of debate within the Democratic establishment about what rhetoric to use via ICE.
Well, an incumbent doesn't lose by 48 percentage points very often—and her vote on collaborating with ICE was the defining issue here.

Pulaski monument in Savannah, Georgia.
The Casimir Pulaski historical marker in Savannah describes his death in detail as well as the mysterious circumstances surrounding his burial.
Happy Pulaski Day. If any of y'all Chicagoans ever visit Savannah, y'all can visit his monument, his square, the fort named after him, and read the creepy details about his burial someone wrote on a bronze historical marker.
