Greetings from Kyiv

Today, on International Women’s Day, I chose to honor them: mothers, wives and girlfriends of missing soldiers.

I visited the exhibition “Status: Missing. My State: Waiting (Love You).”
The exhibits were created by those who wait and love 💔

Netflix and Paramount bidding for a potentially lucrative back catalogue mirrors 18th-century publishing deals Owning proven and popular content makes good business sense.

"In 1755, for example, Longman joined a consortium with five other publishers to produce and publish Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language."

The sort of vibes I get from this is for a safe deposit box type thingy where two people unlock it with two separate keys, almost in a sort of ritual.

The #18thC equivalent of those Instagram posts "today I saw my book being printed".

A bearded man wearing teal gloves uses a green rubber air blower to clean a small metal type punch. He sits at a desk with an open wooden case filled with neatly arranged metal punches, while a computer monitor displaying a magnified image is visible in the background.

🔎 Rare 18th-century punches used to create the original Baskerville typeface have been digitised and released online.
Designers, historians and the wider public now have the opportunity to study the physical tools that shaped modern typography.

Crystal Palace Dinosaurs in Punch’s Pocket Books One of the pleasures of archival research is falling into a hole of information that you did not even know existed, then sharing that new-to-you set of facts with… basically everyone you talk with for...

Hi all, today marks the end of my time as a postdoc for the Punch's Pocket Book Archive project. I'm not 100% sure what's next, big picture, but in the meantime here's a post I wrote last month about #19thC Crystal Palace dinosaurs, ht @cpdinosaurs.bsky.social for info 🦖🦕

I think it was Erasmus who said that if he had any money he bought books, and if there was anything left over he bought food. 😄

Regardless of the White Paper’s merits, today may be a difficult day for SEN parents in your life. Please be nice to them. It is hard to see these conversations carried out mostly by politicians/media with zero idea of the agony, humiliation & expense involved in fighting for your child’s rights.
