I'm thankful 343 fixed MCC after while and it's great now (on Steam) but to make this even worse is that Microsoft is announcing this too with no first party exclusives. It's such a baffling choice to do this now of all times.

My goal of this isn't to see Microsoft shut down. I want them to prove me wrong. I was a Microsoft shill for years (Windows admin, I still pay yearly for O365, loved the 360 era) and watching them do everything to kill their consumer business has been wild. I use W11 for work and man it sucks.
This made me laugh because I also bought my Xbox One for Halo 5 but got the MCC with it and experienced it trying to install the game eight times before turning off on its own right at the end. I still have mine but haven't touched it in over five years
Gaming wise, I know all of my main games have platinum rating on Linux. I don't play anything with kernel-level anticheat and I'm happy that Linux isn't trying to accommodate those systems.
I'll likely install a Windows partition and dual boot myself later this year. I'm looking at Zorin OS
I have some reservations about switching. I still pay for OneDrive cloud storage and MS Office for personal use so even I haven't fully decoupled from their eco system. Finding a better cloud storage ecosystem isn't easy since they all do the same scummy stuff.
I still use Windows 10 and plan to switch to Linux once it's no longer viable once the additional year of support ends this fall. I've admined Windows and installed it for 15 years.
"competition" in the space is only good if the competition is viable. This is a "fool me twice, shame on me" kind of deal and if you fall for the Xbox pitch a third time, that's a choice.
Consumers want Microsoft to stop pushing copilot, vibe-coded fixes, and AI with windows. That's not happening.
The Steam Machine is the real competitor for this type of product. I don't know why you wouldn't just buy that after Microslop's numerous failures. The new Xbox won't support physical media and is going to support their AI initiatives with an OS that has a new bug that wipes your data monthly
Very strong statement from the First Lady of Iraq:
Was AI used for the targeting that likely resulted in the bombing of the girls school?
We must have answers to that question and there is ZERO reason for delay because the Pentagon damn well already knows the answer.
Don't make jokes about black lights on the DHS jet. Don't make jokes about black lights on the DHS jet. Don't make jokes about black lights on the DHS jet. It's who is making it is the issue
PlayStation also announced in this news cycle that they're rethinking their PC approach. You'll have to also accept though that as a PC, this device is going to have AI and Copilot front and center as part of Microslop's broader push.
I'm not saying a console-pc hybrid is a bad idea.
You can buy this based on brand loyalty and that's fine. People still bought the Xbox Series X after Microsoft's failures with the Xbox One. However, expecting the results to be different when there's so much writing on the wall for Microslop is wild
People didn't buy the last Xbox. PC owners have noted significant issues with Microsoft's current operating system and Microsoft has committed the next year to fixing it. Copilot and AI and we have metrics that show that Xbox handhelds perform worse than other similarly priced devices
I'm confused - who is the market right now for this? Windows 11 adoption is reversing, Copilot is proving to be poison, the Series X failed, hardware is expensive, we haven't heard much on GamePass metrics after the last price increase, and they think now is the best time to launch a new console?
UPDATE:
Apparently Donald Trump watched this hearing too. And fired her the very next day.
Do you honestly think that will be the case with 47? No way he doesn't keep his treasure trove if he's transferring $10 billion to his fake Peace Board that he retains control of when he leaves office
Giving a jersey for the team is basically different than giving them a fake Peace Prize and a watch, tbf.
Remember when shit like this was considered an illegal bribe? It's insane how open the door is for corruption
tom brady and snoop dogg starring in a "stand up to hate" commercial while both being supporters and friends of donald trump is kinda the natural conclusion of "just be kind <3" messaging that refuses to engage with politics
About implementing predatory features
create barriers to entry for their customers. Simply making the features illegal won't stop them and will always have loopholes. If their audiences have to prove they're 18 or older and they have to pay vendors for age verification and/or deal with Discord's current problems, they will think twice
To be fair, there should be some kind of age verification law or something for these features that require you to verify you are over 18 to participate in virtual gambling. Same thing should apply to gacha games and games with loot boxes. Make it painful for devs to add these features and
Thune doesn't sound like a guy who's prepared right now to nuke the filibuster for the SAVE America Act
You can like Valve and also educate yourself and recognize that this system is both predatory and should have been banned a long, long time ago. @coffeezilla.bsky.social has great coverage on this

The Constitution clearly gives Congress the power to spend taxpayer funds, and no law allows the president to halt if he feels some US states aren’t being “good stewards” of the money.
In case there’s any confusion on this, the Impoundment Control Act forbids it.
Taxation without representation.
He is saying what Mike Johnson believes but won’t say. The Republican majority is more important to them than disavowing a sexual predator boss causing the suicide of staffer.
holding a press conference to announce an illegal shakedown intended to punish a state who has refused to bow to them
i think they lose this, and probably quickly, fwiw
Dr Oz, with Vance standing behind him, announces that "we're going to for the first time take a massive action to defer funds to a state," then details they are defending $259m of funding for Medicaid programs in Minnesota that take care of pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities
