Excellent medieval/early modern round table yesterday on beds during which we learnt how sinful it is for dogs to be on one’s bed. I guess I am going to Hell unless cat cancels out dog.

Let us all bow down before Elaine Hobby who persuaded CUP to undertake this massive compete Behn project. I’m not sure that just being on the editorial board means I deserve this handsome volume but I am so delighted to have it ; two down only six to go.

Partner: so when people look back on causes for the decline of English studies they will say β€˜ there was someone spending their time writing about beds and blanks’.

Trapezes insured by the Brook dream? Which I was lucky enough to see on its Australian tour.

#earlymodern ok drama people apart from M for M and Alls Well which plays have bed tricks. Just beds eg Chaste Maid don’t count for my purposes.

#earlymodern I was lucky enough to be taught by Harold love and one of his golden rules was always go back to the original source so it did take all day yesterday to find the bit of Malone quoted by Schoenbaum and it was worth it not because Schoenbaum misquoted I hasten to say.

I think I only have one more handbook/companion essay left in me. Have always been grateful to have been taken by surprise by the inimitable Andrew Hadfield who asked me to write about early modern essays when everyone else was asking me to write about early modern fiction

Can’t find my old notes on it. I agree it might be about time also repetition because Clifford loved doing and recording things over and over and over again
