i think jesse jackson was one of the most important american political figures of the post-war era and i think that his 1984 and 1988 campaigns for the democratic nomination still have a great deal to teach about forging a path to a more egalitarian world. RIP.

Every time the media runs “better off on benefits” headlines, disabled people get abused - even though we didn’t create low pay, cost of living crisis, zero-hours contracts, or sky-high rents.
Disabled people didn’t cause this - but we’re always the ones punished for it.

English eugenics is fascinating to observe. There’s something uniquely pathological in the way Brits treat the ill and disabled — those contemptuous, “poorly benefits scroungers”.
I’d guess there’s not only several historical precedents for this, but some deep geographical psychology involved.
